I'd think it highly unlikely, unless that one person was intentionally using a client with "abnormal" behaviours. But even then, it seems a bit of a stretch.

NetError 16 is "Name Lookup Failed." MOULa doesn't use any hostnames AFAIK, so I must wonder if we're misreading the error. It would make more sense if you were seeing Net Error 6 (Disconnected).

Mod Note:

I have removed a post here that named the avatar that was suggested to be a possible "cause" of the problems. We would rather that things like that are handled by raising a support ticket (http://support.cyanworlds.com/) or sending a PM to either the moderators or the admins, simply because speculation of this kind can result in a lot of bad feeling, especially if it turns out to be unrelated.

The points raised in the post will be passed to Cyan, and I thank the poster for the information provided.

I'm in Germany and have just had my first ever error 16. Curiously, just before it hit me, one player in the city was openly accusing another of causing such errors simply by being online. Is that possible?

I've seen it in other games... that player would have to be hacking the server though.

Unless they're either malicious or severely incompetent, it's extremely unlikely that anyone could be causing server problems simply by their presence, even if they were to appear as a bahro and make Kerath's arch do a jig.

I must have missed that one...

I'm still having the same problem. Any help? What is wrong? I've tried reinstalling, deleting the TOS.txt file, reinstalled my video drivers, I still can't get in!

I'm wondering if it's the satellite internet... Uru has been known to get funky with that.

Sorry about all of these mutiple posts, but I might (or might not) have gotten something.

I looked at the Resource Monitor and apparently, UruLauncher.exe is trying to communicate with this address: ec2-184-73-198-22.compute-1.amazonaws.com

When I put that into Firefox, it first tells me that it is an untrusted connection, when I ask it to make an exception, it takes me to a mystonline.com page that says:

"Shorah,

Currently our account creation service is temporarily unavailable. We are working hard on a solution and will resume service as soon as possible.

Please check back soon; we appreciate your patience and understanding.

Thanks for your interest in Myst Online: Uru Live!"

Does this help identify the problem?

The issues described by ThePreacherMan (problem launching URU) and by HenryMikel (Error 16 and getting dropped out of the game) seem to be two distinct problems: The Error 16 is one that we've now got a pretty good handle on the cause, but if anyone is still seeing that particular one then let me know or submit a support ticket (http://support.cyanworlds.com/).

As for ThePreacherMan, I think yours is a "local" problem: Have you tried the advice under Patcher Problems in the Common Problems and How To Solve Them
thread?

Have you ever had MOULa working before this?

Have you checked that there isn't an AV or firewall window that's popped up in the background somewhere asking for permission to connect?

BTW: The web page you're seeing by looking up the server directly is an out-of-date webpage (with a correspondingly out-of-date security certificate, hence the "Untrusted" warning in FF), and has no bearing on your problem, but at least I can confirm that your patcher is looking at the correct IP address Wink.

Yes, I've tried the suggestion listed under Patcher Problems.

Yes, I've had MOULa working before this on this computer. I'm not sure exactly how long ago I was last in the game, but the version at the time was 1.887.

There is no Anti-Virus or Firewall preventing access.

I've been guessing that it was the correct IP address, but not knowing anything about Networking, I didn't want to make assumptions. As I stated in my first post, every ~40th time or so that I try to Launch, it will start to download the updates, get about ~5MB downloaded and then crash.

Actually, it appears that at some point in my repeated attepmts, the Launcher updated itself. Now it says External version 1.902.

It still does almost nothing but crash.

Is this a latency problem? I've played, and updated, in the past on this internet connection.

Possibly Confused - there are some weird timing interactions that go on that can make even a good connection fail. On those rare occasion when it starts to download, roughly how long does it take to get to the 5MB/crashing stage - seconds or minutes?

You could try collecting some network traffic data so I can have a look at what's going on, but it may be a day or two before I can get to it: http://www.mcintoshuk.plus.com/Guides/MOULagainWireshark.html
