Post Posted: Tue Nov 08, 2011 5:44 am — Post subject: EoA and Uru timeline question.

Having read through the summaries of season 1 I was very intrested to learn of the Bahro conflict, my question is where abouts in these events does the events of EoA take place. I've not played it in awhile and am about to as it's taken on new significance after learning about season 1 but i seem to remember it starting in K'veer and we can see Atrus' desk and, while i'm not quite there yet in Uru i hear, you can see it when you get there so do k'veer become acessable to explorers storywise after the protaganist from EoA had already been there?

edit: I may have answered my own question by firing up a new game of EoA. The upper level of the great shaft is intact but there's a DRC marked diagram so this would put events in EoA after the DRC arrived but before 'the scream' which caused more structual damage.
Does anyone know if that's correct? It feels like uru prime and EoA is connected timewise.
The DRC begins then loses funding, everyone pulls out, but some like the player are drawn to the cleft, you make the journey, learning about the DRC on the way, having finished your journey on your explorations you find your way to k'veer, sometime after the tablet adventure the DRC return and 'the scream' happens causing more damage to the city.
Of course the glaring inconsistancy with that is in EoA you don't have acces to a relto, though perhaps it could of been lost on the way to k'veer.

Myst V is intended to take place after Uru. Uru ended in originally in 2004 just a few months after it began. Uru: Ages Beyond Myst took place in 03-04 during those same months that the original live conflict involving Douglas Sharper and Phil Henderson took place (IE "prologue"). "To D'ni" was a free expansion which gave the single-player "Uru: ABM(Prime)" all the multiplayer content which had been available retooled for solo play. The Path of The Shell follows directly after "To D'ni" in 2004. Myst V then picks up the story in 2005 after all the DRC have left the cavern for good. At this point Cyan believed Uru was well and truly done, so EOA ends not only the Myst storyline, but Uru's as well. In late 2006 DRC started to return to the cavern and "the great scream" event happened just a few months before "Season 1" of Myst Online: Uru Live started. Everything that happened in the MOUL story had to be pretty much made up on the spot since most of the original plot that was going to be Uru was already finished in the expansions and Myst V. MOUL officially ended in December 2007 and MOULa started up again n 2010 though nothing has happened in the story since 2007. Which brings us to now. Hope this helps Smile

Edit: Also it should probably be noted that the events of Myst V actually took place from the perspective not of "The Stranger" who is long dead by now, but of Dr. Watson, former head and one of the founding members of the DRC. You can find his journal(written before the events of Myst V) in Descent on a cot.

Oh and welcome to the cavern Very Happy

thank you, that was very helpful and intresting. So it was watson, i figured it was someone connected to the DRC, prehaps an unnamed initial explorer but had no idea it was him, very cool. Where's the source of that info i'd love to give it a read.

I cant seem to find any chatlogs from back then but during the episode of MOUL titled "Deception" Dr. Watson returned to the cavern after having been missing since 2004 and told us himself that it was he who freed the bahro by giving them the tablet.

Here's a link to Vid's excellent summary of the entire story so far.

And also Marten's wonderful (if still unfinished) documentaries reproducing as accurately as possible the early days of Prologue exactly as they happened.

Edit: Ah here's the chatlogs:

Just been watching the documenties and reading the summeries and chat logs and wanted to thank you again for your help, it's all rockingly good stuff and again i'm more perplexed as ever as to why the cavern is not packed to breaking and the story can continue, it's all so enthralling.
It's seem like we're caught in a catch-22, new content can't be put out untill the cavern is doing well but the cavern can't do better untill more content is put out.
Also I think a summery of events should be avalible on the main site, i've been poping into the cavern a few times over the years and had no idea about any of this stuff and it's this enthralling stroy that makes me want to stay.

Well the idea with the story was that when things were truly moving the story would be constant and never-ending. You'd come in and find some new place or something different about an Age. The story is meant to be unscripted. You could personally affect how things worked out. People like Rils, Zardoz, Brian Fioca.. these weren't Cyan people playing a role. They were regular players like you or I.. their actions in the events have been immortalized in the canon. That's what Live is all about. Things lose their impact if they're pre-scripted events that happen over and over again.

In this dynamic ever-changing format you can say "I was there." I was there in The Watcher's Pub when the 2 bahro linked in with a third bahro corpse. I was there in K'veer when Yeesha gave her speech. Many others were present at other events. The story is told by the people who lived it.. just like real life. I agree that some kind of in-game "story-so-far" thing would be great and for a while we had that with Sharper's Journal. He stopped updating it though, sadly.

The problem with this format is that if events are sparse then not everybody gets to experience them. It has to be constant for it to work. Sadly we never got that far.. Not yet anyway.

Technically, Myst V happens after Uru CC and before MOUL.

Thing to keep in mind though that even though there is some crossover, the Myst games and the Uru games technically take place in different continuities from each other - so in a way this is somewhat negligible.

And EoA takes place in a third continuity, sort of.

Like the other Myst games, in Uru canon it is consider to be a game based on real events (whereas Uru itself is consider to just be real events). However, EoA continues the Uru story, so it also considers the other Myst games to be games based on real events.
