poutrew, what do you mean by "won't let me easily open it up ..". Does this message come from Windows ? from your Internet browser ? from your antivirus software ? Just find the directory where you have saved the download file and double ckick amarhys_demo_v2.03.exe to launch the installer.

Norton tells me the .exe contains threat WS.Reputation.1, with medium risk. Then it quarantines the file. I don't know what norton will do if I actually click on it... Sad

poutrew, it's seems to be a common problem for some developpers and Norton users ..

I found this thread on Norton website
http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Internet-Security-Norton/WS-reputation-1-threat/td-p/398034

I have submitted the demo to the Norton white-list process, I don't know how many time it will take to be approved and updated in client software.

Maybe you can force Norton to re-consider this file as safe (from the quarantine management window, I guess there's one), then it will be removed from quarantine and you will be able to run it.

The only way aound it is to turn off Norton's antivirus scanner just for the download.
Right Click on the Norton icon on your toolbar,
Select Disable AntiVirus AutoProtect
Norton will then offer a range of time for the stoppage - selet the smallest.

Now you will be able to download the file.
As soon as it is done Right Click again on the Norton icon and select Turn On AntiVirus AutoProtect.

Before I ran the downloaded set-up I recehecked that it was virus and malware free with several different anti-virus programs and it came up clean.

Unfortunately, I have run into the same error message as Julie1953 and am trying to find a way around it.

HenryMikel,

I am sorry the demo is not working for you too.
Which OS and video card do you have ? Do you have also an IBM graphic card like julie1953 ? Or an ATI or NVIDIA ?

amarhys, just finished the demo. This is awesome! I really like all the improvements you have made; if the original looked good, the new one is just awesome (I ran out of synonyms here...) and I'm loving it.

Amarhyst, over at Gameboomers they LOVE Myst-like games (Gameboomers is strictly for Adventure Gamers).

As I mentioned, I posted a link to the demo over there and it has has over 350 hits in two days. Click on the link below to read what folks are saying. Might I suggest that you sign up for their forum as it will be a great place to promote when it's done.

I won't laugh .. and there's no reason to laugh.
If the monitor is out of range it probably means that the selected resolution is not supported .. did you select "current résolution" in start-up screen ? What is the given "current" resolution ?
You can play in windowed mode, but the quality could be a little bit lower, you may notice some tears in the texture (because of the vertical synchro which is not handled the same way in windowed mode).
Thanks for your feedback Smile

All the pleasure is for me Josie.

current resolution 1024 x 768
given current resolution 'see above'

All is good playing in windowed mode so far....

Thank you for your time and I give an 'E' for Excellent on your age

tommyap,
I guess the issue is that when you hit ESC key to return to the main menu, the game is doing a capture of the current screen (to get a save thumbnail if needed) and it uses a specific DirectX rendering feature which is maybe not supported by your video card. Which video card model do you have ?

Amarhys, this is beautiful! I could happily spend days wandering around this place. Thank you.

The game installed and ran fine. I had to become more detail-oriented to find necessary things. At the end I was stumped because I'd missed the first demo, so I looked through here for clues. Smile

Not since Riven have I seen a place that so invites exploration.

Well, I finally got the Demo loaded. I just told Norton to ignore the warning and run the program. I must say, this is a really beautiful place. Very well constructed and the details...WOW! from the moss growing on the wooden planks, to the rocks in the cove., this is a place I could imagine myself setting up a recliner and beach umbrella, complete with a cooler full of beer and enjoying on a summer day. Nice Smile But alas, I am not good at solving puzzles, so I can't get into the shack, and don't know what this "portal" thing of which you speak is. My suggestion (and I gave this same suggestion to Cyan for Myst 5) is if you could make an option to be where all the puzzles are automatically solved, so that people like me, who just like to wander around these fantastic environments, could do just that. Taking pictures like a tourist, and enjoying the sights...
