So, for those of you who followed the first 30+ page topic, you may be wondering; "What happened?!" Shocked

The topic was transfered from the creativity section to the off topic by my own request when the creativity section got locked due to the forum restructure. When the creativity forum came back, I asked for the topic to be returned.

However, something went very wrong when the Mod(s) I asked from the beginning to help me with this (No, I will not give out name[s]) went to transfer it back. It created 2 "Uru's True Beauty" topics.

When the shadow copy was deleted, both were deleted. When the mod(s) spoke to Chogon, he said that he doesn't thnk there is anything he could do.

I hope that the topic can be recovered in time, but if not I would like to say this; I would like to thank everyone who supported and contributed towards the ~2 year old topic and helped keep it going. (I did NOT expect it to turn into the topic that it did). You have all shown amazing artwork in this topic, and I'm very thankful the topic turned into what it did thanks to the artists behind it Smile

Having said all that; I still have every one of my photos released from the old topic on my hardrive, but the ZIP file is too big for hosting on a common free file hosting site, so if anyone has any ideas of where I can host this 292 MB ZIP, let me know please.

So, let's continue. Smile

I may not know where you can put a 300MB zip-file. But there are places that would host 3 100MB files. Just a suggestion...

A direct link to Jamey's zip file: Uru's True Beauty.zip.

A thought on the lost thread: Sadly, it looks like we can't recover the original thread, leastways not without losing all the other posts that have been made since the last backup. But maybe some kind soul out there has been tracking the thread, maybe as archived news feeds - we couldn't reconstruct the thread exactly as it was, but we might be able to get some semblance of the original content from that, depending on what is available.

If somebody has the link, perhaps we can check Google's cache, or the web archive thingy.

Google Cache only gives the first page.
Perhaps there is someone who made a copy from the rest of this topic.

Are there database backups? It should be pretty easy to pull the old thread from one. Even if it doesn't have everything from the thread, it'd still contain the guts that we're missing.

1. We (the moderators) don't know what Cyan or the web host's policies are on backups, so we can't be sure if a recoverable backup exists. It's not something we normally need to concern ourselves with.
2. If there's a site backup (e.g. via the web host) then it'll restore the entire site to it's state at the point the backup was taken. Hence my comment about losing everything that has happened since.
3. If there's a backup of the database for the forum, then a restore will have the same effect as 2, as it'd replace the entire database, discarding all more recent posts. You'd need to copy the database backup image into a dummy database then run a SQL query on the dummy to search through the *_posts table to find all the posts that match topic_id with the id of the lost thread and then insert those entries into the "live" database then copy the corresponding entries from the *_posts_text table; you'd also need to copy over the topic entry itself from the *_topics table. That's for a "vanilla" phpBB2 install - there maybe some extra tables that need updated to deal with some of the installed mods on this forum. Doing all that would need Cyan time since only Cyan staff have that kind of access, and it'd likely mess up the (already broken) search indexes.

/me whistles innocently Laughing

The feeds of this forum are flaky, so I don’t have all posts – but still a lot of them.

Here’s what I have: http://cw.kolleegium.ch/misc/urustruebeauty.html (250 KB). Hope you can get something out of that.

This is all really nice and a great and well deserved gift for our Jamey and all who
participated in continuously demonstrating and accentuating 'Uru's True Beauty' to
the community and the world over the years ... Reminds me also on Rand again
and again stating that he virtually never deletes anything from his computer ... Razz

Thanks a lot, dearest tanshin, Christian et al for preserving this and sharing the gift
with us all ... On top of that and for those who'd like to keep and save this beautiful
retrospection forever I've created a PDF file from the rescued thread and it can be
downloaded here (26.73 MB) ... Very Happy

You all are amazing. I can't thank all you kind people enough for helping in the recovery of the old topic. It means so much to me. I'm lucky to be in a community with kind people like you all.

Made this for you all, I usually don't reuse images, but I'm making an exception for this one:
