I'm loving Fez. I actually got to talk to Phil Fish (the guy who designed it) about the game at PAX East last year. He's a big Myst fan as well. He said he had actually made a version of the Myst library in the Fez engine, no idea if that made it into the final game but if it's in there I haven't found it yet. It's a seriously huge game.

I'm definitely intrigued by all the cryptography in the game but I haven't made any notes or attempts to solve it. I'm just focusing on the lateral thinking spacial puzzles so far.

I also really love it whenever a game contains both a lighthouse and a windmill. Always a good sign.

Once you find all sixty-four cubes theres three super hidden red cubes to find by piecing together clues from across the entire game and all the cryptography stuff. Two of the three red cubes have been solved but the final one remains a mystery despite the efforts of a dedicated Fez community tirelessly working on it for the past several days. The issue comes from the fact that you're given incomplete instructions in the form of a burnt map. Solving what's available on the map causes something to happen but after that the room remains unsolved and nobody knows what to do next. The only one who has the final red cube is the sound designer of the game and he's sworn to secrecy. We know it's possible.. we just haven't figured out HOW yet.

... that reinvents the wheel ...

That's not what *I* use that idiom to mean... :)

I played a little bit today. Fine work. I don't have an xbox myself, so I won't be playing it right away, but it'll come along.

Considering that all the conventions the game employs are not original I technically did not use that phrase improperly. "Reinventing the wheel" isn't a bad thing. What I meant by it was that it challenges people to look at existing and well-trodden mechanics in a way that's fresh and exciting.
