Rand did mention in an interview with Modojo that Cyan is working on Riven on the iPad:

The most obviously hole to fill next is Riven on the iPad. The original Riven images are high enough resolution to look great on the iPad, so we're hard at work on a Riven for iPad. I have a version on my iPad and it looks incredible.

That Polygon article links to the full interview on Modojo, which is worth a read: http://www.modojo.com/features/riven_for_ipad_interview_with_cyan_worlds_rand_miller/

Couple of key quotes:

Rand Miller wrote:

realMyst sales have gone past the break-even point, which is always good news. realMyst was much tougher to convert than we anticipated, so it was a relief to at least pay the bills.

Creating and selling software for the App Store has generally been a positive experience for us. The income doesn't move us into higher tax brackets, but it is very satisfying being in control of the process from start to finish: financing the development of these smaller projects, controlling the development process, and then reaping the benefits without a middleman. It's very liberating, even if the risk is higher and payoff might be less in some instances.

Very good to hear that they've actually made money on realMyst.

We are focusing on mobile at this point because it allows for the smaller budgets that work well for our current economic situation. We will be taking the work that we've done porting our products to the mobile market and updating versions for current Mac and PC platforms.

So it sounds like we might see some of the iOS remakes come to current desktop machines…

And he mentioned Kickstarter again. Very Happy

Just finished playing Riven on the iPad. Great port.

Some glitches here and there: sometimes the interface became unresponsive. I don't mean the movies: I know you can skip ahead with the arrow icon top right. But occasionally I had to touch a hotspot several times, or wait a while, before an action occurred. Once or twice I even had to quit the game. (State was saved, so that was ok.)This was worst when entering the code to open the cage on prison island: after tapping the correct sequence and pulling the handle, nothing happened. Then the keys below the handle didn't function any more. I only got them work again by reloading a saved game. Luckily I had a fairly recent one.
But these are really minor issues. The overall gameplay is very smooth and rewarding. Recommended!

It's interesting to see the reviews on iTunes though. People are so used to flashy full-rez 3D games these days that anything 2D appears to be an instant disappointment. Especially after realMyst, it looks like Riven for iPad mainly appeals to the fans. I feel old.
