Post Posted: Wed Apr 18, 2012 4:29 am — Post subject: Gehn Shard Build 7 Released

It's been quite some time since our last update, so I thought I'd post over here to give us a bit more exposure.

We finally have an update! There are some new features that need testing and some old bugs that are hopefully fixed, or at least a bit less awful. The coolest ones are the beginnings of proper translation support and better Windows 7 taskbar integration.

For the full release notes and the official discussion area, head over to our forums.

If you haven't tried Gehn yet, we have easy-to-follow instructions available.

Yeah, Jamie, I am as excited as you are ... It really gets better and better ... Razz

As not everyone on these MOUL forums is reading or even joining the GoW forums,
I thought to post/quote my yesterdays' first testing experiences here ...

First I'd like to point out that the H'Uru/Gow magicians (in collaboration with all other Shard
operators btw) are working tirelessly on everything like improvements and enhancements on
all levels, bug fixes as well as implementation and fixing of stuff not yet correctly working, all
at the same time, so, a big kudos and thanks is due for their efforts and dedication, esp. also
for this latest update, as this has already and will continue to benefit and enhance the game
play and performance and thus the fun of MOULa ... Razz

First and foremost they were working hard to get this all as stable as possible and with the new fixes
and improvements that goal is achieved with mighty steps forward once again as I feel that the server
and game play are more stable than ever ...

On this sticky resp. locked thread btw you can follow the progress of what is still broken resp. brought
about already with the vanishing of the listed tasks ...

So, yeah, it was a joy to test some stuff again and to find so much more enhanced like some really weird
MOUL camera angles and transitions
, I've tested those in the Eders, in Teledahn and the Watcher's Pub
and they're really gone, which is awesome ... The 'Relto nosedive' is gone ... Yay!!! except when coming
back from the closet, which brings me to an interesting discovery as I wanted to test the

Improved Windows 7 taskbar progress bars and the better taskbar integration as well as 'Allow users to
play Uru in any resolution supported by their monitor', that's why I did some changings back and forth and
everything worked fluently and looked great and with the windowed mode at last I was stunned ... This is really
very comfortable, the taskbar integration is perfect and only in that mode you can see the awesome beautiful
taskbar progress bar loading A N D haha, you don't have a 'Relto nosedive' at all, also not from returning from the
closet ... Wink

Ok, what else ... I noticed the case insensitive listing of names in the KI, I believe you didn't mention that and
after the Minkata Shard testings I now noticed and enjoyed the great and perfect standing and running jumps lol ...
Oh, and I recognized that the Pods are now by default powered when linking in, which is nice, though I don't know
if that was established/coded intentionally ... And there's so much more, just wow!!! ...

Yeah, that is it so far, have to roam more to realize and experience the whole upgrade in its complexity, thanks again
guys, great job and accomplishment in so many ways ... Smile

Apparently, a new crop of bugs snuck in on Gehn.7. I would recommend giving the devs some time to sort them out before passing judgement on this release. The Cleft is broken so new avvies cannot progress very far in the game.

There is a possibility that the launcher might crash for XP systems (the specific version mentioned so far is SP2). This still needs to be verified.

These problems were not obvious unless you started a new avatar. Existing avvies seemed to work fine even though the Cleft was still an issue (how often do we go back there after finishing it Smile ).

That's too bad about the cleft.

The are a fuw new feature I l would like to add. Gehn 7 allows you to use any resulustion your monitor can display instead of reading values from a hard-coded list. This does not do much for currently most of the unofficial shards have the updated lists which support HD resulastionts including my monitors native 2048x1152 but it does allow the game to run in 640x480, which is interesting.(this could lower the minimal system requirements a tiny bit).

I should also point out that the Gehn shard has a fan age , so if you haven't seen any fan ages, this is your chance! The devs say there will be more fan ages soon but they are busy and want to present the best of what people in the GoW have made so it might be "Cyan" soon rather then "real" soon. Smile

A small typo has caused the Cleft imager to malfunction. As you can see, a patch has been made and hopefully we'll have a new build up soon that fixes this nasty little bug.

Something else to consider. With the release of Gehn.7, your processor chip must support SSE3 instructions. If your cpu chip is too old, you will not be able to run Gehn.

How do you check? Download and run CPU-Z. Under the CPU tab, processor, instructions, CPU-Z will list the instruction sets your processor can handle.

(Still looking for the patch to put the imager code back in...)

SSE3 shouldn't be a problem for most people, it's available on most CPUs above a Pentium 4 or equivalent. That's probably one of the "behind the scenes" changes they made for it, also makes the game faster.

Some of the early P4's did not support SSE3. Intel introduced SSE3 in early 2004 with the Prescott revision of their Pentium 4 CPU. In April 2005, AMD introduced a subset of SSE3 in revision E (Venice and San Diego) of their Athlon 64 CPUs.

This under the hood upgrade is part of the continuing effort of the GoW to update the CWE to more modern (and faster) chip architectures.

A more complete list of SSE compliant chips can be found in the wikipedia [linky]

That's probably more technical information then most people need to know.

Gehn.8 and beyond (this was supposed to be in Gehn.7 but was not functioning as intended) will explicitly let the user know if their processor is too old.
