When I try to start Uru, it sits at the update screen until the update finishes, then an error message pops up, and it crashes. (this is new install, it hasn't worked previously on this machine)

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium, Service Pack 1, 64-bit
Installation location: default directory (C:\Program Files (x86)\Uru Live)
Version: 1.912
Graphics card: nvidia GeForce GT 520M
Repro: happens every time

This is the error message:
UruLive.Live.1.912 - External.Release
Exception type: Access violation
Call stack (14 levels):

0x004572FC

I've tried disabling antivirus, running in compatibility mode for XP, disabling visual themes, disabling firewall, and running as administrator. Any other suggestions?

Thank you, I really appreciate your time!

I can't tell for sure what's wrong but here is a susstion just the same:
Try resting all your graphics settings to default and see if that helps.

Hello Akroy, and welcome to the community!

Hum.. I'm not a hundred percent sure of the answer to your issue. For me, when this has happened the the past (I have a similar configuration to you), I set Urulauncher.exe to run as an administrator and it works.

Are you by chance not running the update on a windows administrator account? This could be your issue. Also, if you have a virtual disk on your computer it could be interfering with the update.

Have you tried running in XP compatibility mode?

I'm running MOULa on Win 7 Pro 64-bit, and displaying using a GT520 graphics card (I've got multiple graphics cards and displays) and MOULa starts up just fine. What I'd suggest first off is to try dragging that "Uru Live" folder out of Program Files (x86) and putting it somewhere else, such as creating a new folder like C:\Games and putting it inside there. Using the Program Files folders on Vista/Win 7 creates UAC issues, although they can be resolved. I don't really think that's the solution here though, since the UAC issues don't normally cause a stack dump, but it takes one variable out of the equation in trying to figure out what's wrong.

I tried all those things to no avail, so I installed XP in order to reduce complication. Of course, when I tried to put XP into my bootloader along with Win7, Win8, and Fedora, and Ubuntu, I corrupted the MBR. To make a long story short, on a clean install of 7 with Uru installed outside Program Files, it works without a hitch. So, for anyone else with the same problem, not sure what settings caused the issues before, but it's definitely possible to use this kind of build.
