SWtor is getting rid of it's subscription fees because a vast amount of it's player base has left because of the game and the company that runs it.
For a start, You weren't able to switch servers for months after release of the games and many people including myself got stuck on a dead realm it's the main reason why I left and many others.
The second reason were the terrible bugs and glitches every where. When I was in the Beta there were so many bugs but expected those to be fixed for launch... They weren't. The game UI and mechanics are almost identical to World of Warcraft except badly made. Yes the game looks pretty but the only differences are really just the theme of the game and the multiple choice KOTOR type answers. I will say the story is good though but would've been better as just another KOTOR than a badly made MMO
Then the PvP and end game content was badly made and too easy. Nothing really there to do. Not to mention the really bad customer support it was outrageously bad. With WoW's mists of pandaria coming out and Guild Wars 2 a lot of people have left SWtor just because it's not worth the money by a mile.
As for World of Warcraft loads of people are bored with the game at the moment, There hasn't been any new content out for months and a lot of people are getting bored with the grinding model WoW uses not to mention the pure greed of making it's subs spend hundreds of dollars a year.
Now comes in the real threat to both WoW and SWtor... Guild Wars 2. This game lives up to it's hype, It's very well made and free to play (after buying the box). The PvP is top notch, It looks great, The story is great. It's fresh and new approach to MMO's with Rift like Dynamic events made better and just simply everything that was a grind or a chore made fun.
Many people have already left WoW to play Guild Wars 2 and it's only in Beta stage till 25th/28th of August. I think WoW will start to feel the pinch soon as it now has true competition.
