Marten, I think those are prudent and responsible (and mature) suggestions.

Thanks for posting!

Would you elaborate on that, Tweek? Laughing
Or could you at least point me towards something that's not "eww"? Very Happy

Thanks, but...

I installed it, then I clicked on the link and got that weird page again. *Laughs in a "I'm going to go crazy at any moment" sort of laugh*

www2,

This is very strange. You've tried two different browsers, and somehow the data from www.mmorpg.com is being garbled in both browsers, right?

And you are getting garbled text whether you go to http://www.mmorpg.com/ directly, or the interview article at http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/setview/features/loadFeature/713/gameID/261/ ? Is the garbled text exactly the same or different? (I really don't know what else to ask just yet. I'm pondering the problem.)

Can you give a clue about your location or your internet service provider?

Whoops. I had just edited my message when you replied Razz I re-read your earlier messages and saw that you're having the problem regardless of how you access the site... so my new questions are:

(1) Is the garbled the text the same every time, and is the same regardless of whether you access the "front page" or the article?
(2) Anything special about your internet service, or are you accessing the site from a foreign country?

My ISP is SBC Yahoo DSL. I'm in California, so there's nothing special that I know of.

I'll continue to assist as best I can in private messages. No promises, but don't give up hope just yet.

Rusty & www2:

I've confirmed with www2 that by accessing mmorpg.com through a different route across the internet, www2 can read the site. The way I've set it up is imperfect, so site navigation and a few other things break, but the site is accessible. We've proven that.

Here is my best guess:

(1) There's likely additional sites on the net that will cause this problem for you, though the number may be small.

(2) The problem is probably originating on a network router that is corrupting information that it is relaying to you.

I could be wrong, but the discovery so far is pointing this way.

I'm going to PM each of you a URL to temporarily access the interview by bouncing through my home computer. Let me know when you get the PMs.

To permanently resolve your problem, you're going to have to talk to your Internet Service Provider(s). This is usually a big pain; for several months, Comcast Cable customers weren't able to access The Great Tree website, and Comcast played dumb with every call but eventually the problem was fixed.

I suggest that you start by performing a traceroute from your comptuer to mmorpg.com. On Windows, you can open a command line window (Start->Run and type in "cmd") and then run "tracert www.mmorpg.com" and hit Enter. You'll get something like this:

Code:

Tracing route to mmorpg.com [216.168.128.129]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

  1    <1 ms    <1 ms    <1 ms  192.168.0.254
  2     7 ms    10 ms     7 ms  73.92.104.1
  3     8 ms     *        7 ms  GE-2-37-ur02.vancouver.wa.bverton.comcast.net [68.87.218.237]
  4     7 ms     *        9 ms  10g-8-2-ar01.troutdale.or.bverton.comcast.net [68.87.216.81]
  5    17 ms    14 ms    12 ms  12.117.180.201
  6    78 ms    77 ms    76 ms  12.127.6.54
  7    75 ms    75 ms    76 ms  tbr2-cl11.cgcil.ip.att.net [12.122.10.61]
  8    80 ms    80 ms    79 ms  tbr1-cl22.cgcil.ip.att.net [12.122.9.133]
  9    76 ms    80 ms    77 ms  tbr1-cl14.n54ny.ip.att.net [12.122.10.1]
 10    78 ms    77 ms    77 ms  gar1-p300.nyzny.ip.att.net [12.123.3.89]
 11    76 ms    75 ms    75 ms  12.118.100.34
 12    88 ms    84 ms    85 ms  Nextgen-Telephone.g1-0-0.400.ar2.JFK1.gblx.net [
64.213.176.98]
 13    90 ms    87 ms    83 ms  fe-xl2-cr1-mtsnny.gbcx.net [216.168.138.45]
 14    89 ms    88 ms    85 ms  mmorpg.com [216.168.128.129]

Whatever is common between each of your traceroutes should help you to narrow the location of the problem for reporting to your service provider(s).

There is a way to cut and paste in a Cmd window, but it is a royal pain the patootie!
Don't know why Microsoft had to make it so difficult. For future reference:

Click on the "C:\" symbol in the upper left of the window.
Select the Edit row (under the boldfaced "Close" option).
Select "Mark"
Highlight the text.
Press the Enter key.

Now you can paste the text elsewhere.
See? Told you it was a pain in the patootie!
Completely different from every other application...

Now then: Whatever is uncommon between my traceroute and www2's is the narrowed field.
Next, we need Rusty's traceroute and to look at what is common.

Suspects:
Anything between adsl-69-227-71-254.dsl.irvnca.pacbell.net (Irvine, California) and
64.34.84.118 (Peer 1 Network router, New York, NY), inclusive.
