Well, I thought that the "no new ages when Uru Live starts up" - I thought that statement was pretty clear. There was that nice blurb about surprises, so that's good. Maybe we'll have more stuff to do to build a community when Uru live starts. Given that Cyan has to solve all the technical problems, and (I assume) give us more to do in the game, and all that with a smaller staff - well I can't see how this translates into new ages, at startup. But hey, I don't work there, I don't know.
Then again, I have zero patience at interpreting vague comments. To give Rand credit, I think that these recent statements are quite good, very nicely stated.
Oh where we start in Uru live - "home" - I don't think they were getting all metaphorical - you know, on your computer at home. Relto is your home age, it's said as such by Yeesha, so I thought that's where we would start.
If we do start in Relto, I think that's a lovely solution, if still a bit problematic. A new player would start out in a private age, but have easy access to a group age. The benefit to the private age they start in is that it is their home age - it is where they start everytime in the game. The player would not start out in that awful start location, the cleft (don't get me wrong, I thought the cleft was lovely, I like being there), but they would start out in a private space. The benefit is that, hopefully, one would l have some very easy guidance to get to a group age, not the gauntlet that players had to traverse to get contact with, you know, actual people, in the former version of online Uru.
What I think would be great is if you just had your KI (such as it is) at startup. There's such a big learning curve on that KI thing that I think it would be great to give it to people as soon as possible.
