I interpret this to mean Tomahna, given who asked the question, as well as the D'ni word for "home."

Do others agree?

If by "Tomahna," you mean the Tomahna of Revelation (so to speak), that would contradict the continued emphasis on there being no new Ages when Uru Live re-opens. (Of course, Tomahna isn't really a new Age, as it's somewhere beyond all that scrub around the Cleft, never could quite find it even with the Zandoni's help . . . ) Perhaps Relto, except that would create quite a problem in terms of understanding how one got there. Perhaps Myst Island? After all, Rand didn't say whose home. Or maybe fan-made Ages really are being supported, in which case I'd better get started modeling my house . . .

But "at home" in Uru could be Relto or a neighborhood too.

Actually, I believe the emphasis was that there were no new ages when BETA opened... There will certainly be new ages as soon as Uru Live starts. The question is, if I'm right, where do we start in the meantime? My guess would be Relto (or the Neighborhood).

From yesterday's Town Hall:

Quote:

Toria: Will we see new ages right away when live starts?
Rand: No new ages immediately - but we have some surprises as we move forward
Toria: thx, and good luck to all at Mysterium and Mystralia smile.gif
Rand: the initial launch is just to get things up and running again.

I interpreted that to apply to the launch of Uru Live, not the beta.

I interpreted it as, perhaps, just being a joke. That we'll start at home... on our computers..at our desks.

However, there's also the chance that it wasn't a joke. It just seems a bit too obvious to be just a little nudge or a clue.

That was my thought. I thought it was obvious and didn't try to read anything into it, except, maybe, as a double-meaning for Relto.

From TH with Moke earlier:

Quote:

Q: Will the beta testers be exploring some of the new areas or just what we know on new servers?
M: I'm guessing the Beta Testers will see a few new areas... But much of the new content is still "in the pipeline" so to speak, and it will be a matter of timing. The early Beta Testers will see less new areas than the later Beta Testers.

Looks like we have evidence to support both sides...

My guess is that Rand misunderstood Toria's question, and interpreted it to be about beta testing... Another guess is that he didn't misunderstand the question, but only because her question really WAS about beta testing...

NOTE TO CYANTISTS:

If you are planning on having no new content right away when Live starts this holiday season, I think this would be a BAD idea. New content will bring in players who are not so fanatical as to play without new content, but are still interested in Uru. And it is important to bring in these people early on. Someone once told me that if an MMO isn't popular RIGHT AWAY, it has a bigger chance of dying. Plus, it would be easier to advertise when you have something nobody's seen before (except maybe beta testers...)

Please understand that I am not saying that you are planning on doing this. You may be, but I don't think so. I'm just making doubly-sure

END OF NOTE TO CYANTISTS.

I agree. Starting with no new content would NOT be a good way to start the rebirth of Live. As of right now we have Until Uru as a good place to sit and discuss things with no new content and the numbers there are dwindling. Doing this in the start of Live would have the same result.

I would imagine that cyan has enough intelligence to know that this is a bad idea, and so I bet that he meant in Beta, not in Live.

As a grammarian note... "The early Beta Testers will see less new areas than the later Beta Testers." should read "The early Beta Testers will see fewer new areas than the later Beta Testers." Less is the singular adjective, few is plural. *is mobbed by the forum* Ow! Ow! No bricks!

Do you mean less brick, or fewer bricks? How about more cowbell?

Actually, "fewer" is for things you count and "less" is for things you measure, generally speaking. Less filling. Fewer beers. Less beer, a singlular use, is a measurment and not a count. Has little to do with plurality.

Well, I thought that the "no new ages when Uru Live starts up" - I thought that statement was pretty clear. There was that nice blurb about surprises, so that's good. Maybe we'll have more stuff to do to build a community when Uru live starts. Given that Cyan has to solve all the technical problems, and (I assume) give us more to do in the game, and all that with a smaller staff - well I can't see how this translates into new ages, at startup. But hey, I don't work there, I don't know.

Then again, I have zero patience at interpreting vague comments. To give Rand credit, I think that these recent statements are quite good, very nicely stated.

Oh where we start in Uru live - "home" - I don't think they were getting all metaphorical - you know, on your computer at home. Relto is your home age, it's said as such by Yeesha, so I thought that's where we would start.

If we do start in Relto, I think that's a lovely solution, if still a bit problematic. A new player would start out in a private age, but have easy access to a group age. The benefit to the private age they start in is that it is their home age - it is where they start everytime in the game. The player would not start out in that awful start location, the cleft (don't get me wrong, I thought the cleft was lovely, I like being there), but they would start out in a private space. The benefit is that, hopefully, one would l have some very easy guidance to get to a group age, not the gauntlet that players had to traverse to get contact with, you know, actual people, in the former version of online Uru.

What I think would be great is if you just had your KI (such as it is) at startup. There's such a big learning curve on that KI thing that I think it would be great to give it to people as soon as possible.

you will start in the cleft just like you have all along

this is the rebirth of uru live not a remake of urulive

after all the cleft is where the storys starts not the hood or relto
