i just started playing and linked to the age with the circling stone around it. the one where next to the place where you link theres a sign saying "collect you KI". well i found the crack in the circling stone and then stepped out in another room. here there is a some sort of platform with two pedals. on one of the walls there is some sort of coloumn that rises if you step on the platform.
i tried raising the device fully, then running back and stepping on the two pedals but nothing happens. i figure that you must have three players doing all of that at once. is that so? is that why it tells you to collect your KI (the communication device) at the entrance?

Hi guitar.

You are in the Gahreesen Age. The room you are in, with the pedals, is usually called the Gear Room.

Have a closer look around at everything, all of the walls, all of the symbols, all of the devices, in the Gear Room. Test things out that you find. Perhaps you will find something that may work with the other things you have already discovered. It can be fun to discover the things in the Gear Room with other explorers, but it is possible to do the things you need to do there without the presence of other explorers.

Your KI can be found in a KI dispensing device in another room. You may need to backtrack to get there.

You can complete the URU game as a stand alone game. URU Live has not been made available just yet, a few more months to go. But Until URU is a way to play online with others. There is much more on this forum about Until URU vs. URU Live.

And here is a site about all things Myst related, including URU, that may be helpful.
Guild of Greeters

Good luck and have fun.

Guitar

You should go to the "until URU" forum this forum is for live only.

It sounds like your new to URU and I welcome you, there are lots of people who will be glad to help you get to know and understand the game just make sure your in the correct forum.

You should start by go to a search program like "Google" and type in "URU walkthrough" to get help. But only do this if you get stuck and just can’t get past a point in the game. Figuring out the puzzles is so much fun once you get the hang of it.

Hope to see you in Live!

Nighthawk is correct. All of the puzzles in Uru (Ages Beyond Myst, or Complete Chronicles) can be completed without assistance from others.

Here's a little more detail about the difference between Until Uru and Uru Live so you don't have to go hunting for it.

Until Uru is an online version of the Uru: Ages Beyond Myst game. It is free and provides a smattering of additional features not available offline (Ayoheek, marker games, and the Gahreesen Wall competition) but it is not compatible with some newer computers and has limited support from Cyan. It is based on the 2003 version of Uru Live that closed due to lack of funding. Still, it is a lot of fun. Click here for the Until Uru forum at Cyan's website.

Uru Live is the rebirth of the Uru story online, and it is planned for availability near the end of 2006. It will initially feature the same Ages we've visited before in Uru: Ages Beyond Myst, plus some new content and a revised introduction to the game (with the player beginning somewhere other than the Cleft). As time progresses, the Uru Live story will unfold and new content will go live on a regular basis.
