Post Posted: Mon Jul 17, 2006 6:59 pm — Post subject: Mysterium travel information

Hey fellow avvies

Mysterium is coming up soon and as you all know, it will be here in Spokane. I live in Spokane and I have been asked a lot of questions regarding location of Cyan, hotels, parking and such. While I do live in Spokane, I have only been by Cyan and am not sure of parking issues and such.

I will do my best to find out. So, for those of you driving in, there is an issue with I-90. I-90 is a mess right now because they are rebuiliding, re-surfacing the freeway coming in to Spokane from both directions...east and west. So..I-90 is a real challange and some of the exits are blocked! I will try to get updated information and get it posted here and the other forums as soon as possible. I might add, you can get some information on I-90 / traffic info from our local tv stations, Here are the addys..

KHQ.com
KXLY.com
KREM.com

I will also try and build up some maps and get those up, but i am not sure how to post those here or at the other forums and I do not have my own website. If any of you know how to post a map (JPG or PDF) let me know. I'll do what I can for all of you, just hope I can pull this off with the little time we have left. Any other ideas, for needed info, get back to me here or my email addy, K? If any of you are flying into Spokane and need some information, get back to me and I'll see what I can do for you.

I am soooo looking forward to meeting all of you... Razz

Good idea Jeremy. As you noted, many of the on-ramps/off-ramps along I-90 are closed now. Here is a link for a diagram that shows those closures:

http://www.krem.com/images/onrampclosure.pdf

Since most people will be traveling eastbound from Seattle, the best exit to take would be for the Maple Street Bridge, and continuing north through Country Homes Blvd. That puts them almost right at the Ramada. I'm trying to find a decent map online that could show that route, but I haven't had much luck so far. I'll keep looking Smile

Edit: OK, I think I've found a decent map everyone can use:

http://www.spokanecity.org/download/gistransfer/pubmaps/CityMap.pdf

Zoom to about 125%, and find Exit 280A along I-90. This is the Maple Street Bridge exit. Continue north on Maple Street as a one-way and follow the map. As you can see, just past Francis, the one-way going north as Maple, and the other going south as Ash, merge into Country Homes Blvd. Continue on Country Homes Blvd. until you reach Division.
Take a left on Division/395 getting into the right lane until you reach Westview Ave. and take a right. Continue on Westview until you reach the Ramada which is just on the right with entrances to the motel.

For those heading from the Spokane airport, you will be heading East towards Spokane. You can see the airport on that same map at approximately grid 32. From the airport you will be taking Airport Drive which has an exit for Spokane and Highway 2. You will travel on Highway 2 a short distance where you will see exits for I-90 going to Spokane and Seattle. Once you take the Spokane exit, you just need to follow the directions above as if you were traveling eastbound on I-90.

Now for those heading Westbound on I-90, take the Division Street exit 281. You will go through downtown Spokane, over the Spokane River, where Division splits off as one-ways with Ruby going north. Eventually they merge again just past Buckeye where you will continue north again on Division until you reach what we call the "Y". This is where 395 and Highway 2 splits. Stay on Highway 2 until you reach Westview. The Ramada should be on your left.

Does this sound good to you Jeremy/Cyanists? I'm not the best at giving directions so any modifications are welcome Smile

Right on Ashtar, guess we Spokane boys have to stick together, eh? I'm getting other info and will be creating maps of our own that will be easy to follow. I hope to have those done soon. Any onfo that you or other Spokanites can provide for our friends will be greatly appreciated.

thanks....

How big can Spokane be?

Confused

*remembers that cities in U.S. are on average 10.5 times larger than those in Canada*

This is great information but for those of us who are directionally challenged (/me raises hand--not sure if it's my right or left) I'll be traveling west on I-90 if I'm coming from the airport? Did I get that right? How bout landmarks? Those always make things easier for me especially when road signs are missing.

hey Ashtor, thanks for the map, thats the same one I was going to post. Ok gang, I am doing my best to keep up with all of this. I will be creating maps of specific areas, with landmarks (for those who are diectionaly challanged...ahem). I'll get those done as soon as I can and send them out. A couple of fellow avvies have offered some space on thier website and help, which is way kewl. Just give me some time, things are hectic for me right now. I'll keep all of you posted. Oh,yes, the airport is west of Spokane, so you would travel EAST to Spokane from the airport.

The 2005 estimate puts the population of Spokane County at about 441,000. So not nearly as big as Seattle, but big enough to have the traffic problems of a larger city Smile

Some how I think Jeremy might have it in for me since I'm diectionaly challenged or maybe he just thinks I should "cover the grays" but I do have web space available that I can post maps to just in case you need more space.

Just keep in mind Ja'de, the eastbound Division Street off-ramp is closed, so if you are coming from the airport, you can't use that exit. The easiest way in my opinion is to use the Maple Street exit as I indicated above.

Thanks Ash...I can see that now and it gets me off the highway sooner as well. Maybe I'll check the AAA maps again next week to see if they've been updated.
