Edited by Artic Wagon.

Reason why: One of the oldest recurrent story !

Since I have joined the Mystonline forums, I have often suffered some group bashing from members of your community and I have reached what I call "The breaking point".

I feel sad for the "Good People".

Evil is the Lord of this planet and , as seen on these forums at times, he protects well his followers. My only freedom is chosing another path. The path of the loner.

So mote it be.

Norfren has compiled a fantastic GLOSSARY . It will be updated at launch, but there is not much missing from this excellent list. Smile

Exactly, which is why it's my personal opinion that they really shouldn't be used on forums at all - appart from all else, it's just lazy.

However, as there will always be some who insist on using the abreviations, I think this thread's a good idea.

I am probably going to be one of those people who insists on using shorthand.

For example: the following sentence

The DRC, DRCLs and ResEngs met in D'ni to discuss the opening of the GZ which was open in CC

It's much easier than writing:

The D'ni Restoration Council, the D'ni Restoration Council Liaisons and the Restoration Engineers met in D'ni to discuss the opening of the Great Zero, which was open in the Complete Chronicles.

Keep posting them here, Good Folks, and I will add them to the list at the top.

Thank you for the help, Abb Hunters.

Some more basic ones:

RP - role-playing; in the context of Uru Live, this tends to mean playing a character entirely different from your real-life self

IC - In Cavern (also In Character); approaching Uru Live with the point of view that you are really in D'ni, a real place (as opposed to playing a computer game)

OOC - Out of Cavern (also Out of Character); approaching Uru Live with the point of view that you are playing a computer game, not walking around D'ni as a real place

Oh I think there's a core of abbreviations that are used so regularly, like the ones that you cite, that there's no problem using them. It's others, like pl, hk, px, ODE, hs, CTD, BoA, BoT and BoD, to name but a few, that we could quite easily live without.

Well, hey then!

CTD: Crash to Desktop.

And one that's not an abbreviation, but a word used oddly:

Relto'd Out: Linked to Relto (used in the context of leaving an area, i.e. "I was chatting with Tweek before he relto'd out.")

Yeah, I have never seen these used:

Quote:

pl - Plasma
hk - Havok
px - PhysX
ODE - Open Dynamics Engine
hs - HeadSpin (which was bought by Cyan to develop the Plasma Engine)

Maybe these are used by some of the AgeBuilders, but normal explorers just don't use these abbreviations. These are obscure and infrequent enough that they don't need to be in the list, in my opinion.

Here's one that isn't an acronym but confuses people: Lattice. The Lattice is the D'ni "computer system" that manages the Nexus and communication with the KIs.

Another one that we'll probably see in more use this week: GZM - Great Zero Marker.
