I am getting extremely frustrated. I love Myst and was so excited to see Uru Live resurrected. I joined up for the fun, knowing that there would still be bugs, but not realizing it would be this bad. I am perpetually getting the message: "Untranslated: network error 6, disconnected from server. Protocol: auth server". Yes, I reported it two nights ago. I have disabled Antivirus. I took my e-mails off automatic download. I have a wireless network, that is operating in the good to very good range, but I keep getting kicked off the network with that blasted "Error 6". Is this my computer????
If it is, what could it be?

Or is it some bug in the program??? If it is a bug in the program, how are all of you who are all over the place in Uru getting around. I am so irritated.

Thanks to anyone who can offer any help on this. Oddly, it started the day after I went to the classroom, got my KI and returned to my Relto.
Thanks,
Flo

Well my first thought is that there could have been a problem with your router not letting the Uru client through. That was a problem I had. The only reason I would discredit this theory is the fact that your problem came up after you already had Uru working. But then again routers are funky sometimes so I would check that out. Also just for grins try to do a system restore point back to when you had Uru working just to clear up any lingering doubt of you computer.
WELL... that is all I can think of now. If I think of anything else I will be sure to post.
Hope that helps Very Happy

An easy way to test this theory would be to bypass what you're using to connect wirelessly and plug DIRECTLY into your internet connection, then try playing Uru for a little bit and see if the problem is still occuring.

I concur that this is likely an issue with your wireless router, as this is certainly not a very common bug with Uru.

Yes. the nature of the wireless connection may be your problem. Wireless may drop out for a variety of reason just long enough to give you a disconnect.

My wireless strength would vary from "Low" to "Good" with signal quality dropping to "poor", and I had a lot of disconnects. I had to experiment to find a spot for the antenna that would insure the best signal strength.

There are potential other issues. Depending on your circumstances, your wireless may have conflicts with other wireless signals in the area that share your channel. This may occasionally cut you off.

Try the wired connection and see if that solves it.

Another thing about wireless connections..

wireless technology operates on the same frequency range as 2.4 GHz phones. If someone in the house (or a very close neighbor if you're in an apartment or townhouse) has a 2.4 GHz phone and that phone just happens to decide to use your wireless router's frequency, it will instantly conflict and your wireless signal will be disrupted.

I've seen it happen here before where I'm living in a townhouse, my signal will suddenly go from 90% to gone in an instant and then miraculously return a minute later.

It's nice, or not so nice, to know that I'm not the only one having this problem. The closer we get to the release date, the worse it seems to get. I don't have a wireless connection, and I'm connected directly to the modem, not through a router. If anyone can help me figure out what I can do to make this stop, I would really appreciate it.

I too got this error and have a wired connection. Mine, I realized what caused by my Virus's Live Update trying to run.

So, just a thought here, but there are many other things that have updates scheduled like your printers, media players, windows updates, etc. If one of those programs starts to run, it could be kicking you off.
Just a thought.

Back again, I think I may have fixed the problem. I changed my preferences for the wireless to be controlled by windows not by the wireless utility. After I did that I was able to putter around in Uru just fine. I completed the work that I had to do in the cleft. Then I went to Bevin to see if I could find anyone, alas no one was there within my view. I ran all over and saw some pretty interesting stuff. So, thanks everyone. You helped me focus on my computer instead of thinking it was a problem outside of my control.

Glad to hear you're up and running! Don't forget that once you've gotten your KI, you'll be able to access the public city and some other bevins, some of which have more members than others.

I can say with almost complete certainty that I am certainly certain it is your wireless connection, if it's encrypted.

Back in UU, specifically on D'mala, the server gave me an authentication time out almost every time I logged on (AUTH RESPONSE: FAILED). Through the help of community members and shard admins, the cause was narrowed down to my high speed wireless, which was encrypted like crazy. Of course, I couldn't turn off the encryption, so I migrated to the shard that liked me, Slackers.

Then a few weeks ago I started getting the Error Disconect 6 Auth protocol (or something like that). I figured out the reason:

Make sure that while playing URU (and only while playing Uru) your antivirus is off. Both the Windows Firewall, Windows Defender if you have it, and Norton/Kaspersky/whatever.

i play with mcafee 8 and the windows firewall on all the time with no problems. however i'm not trying to connect via wifi so im not dealing with wep or wpa encyption on top of all that. bottom line, use a wired ethernet connection if possible.

Post Posted: Tue Feb 20, 2007 1:27 pm — Post subject: No firewall, no anti-virus, no wireless - same problem!

I have no firewall, no anti-virus software, and don't use wireless (or...have tried both wired and wireless), but still I get the same problem.

Sometimes I can play for 15 minutes or a bit more, but usually I get the "network error 6" within 5-10 minutes. Can't really figure out a pattern of when the error occurs. Seems pretty random.

I'm thinking in my case the problem is maybe one of the following:
1. Network settings. One of the parameters of my network card needs adjustment.
2. My router isn't working properly (even though I don't have a firewall enabled)
3. It's a server-side problem.

Any further suggestions are welcome!

I had this problem the other night too. I've never had it before and i have wired internet and no firewall.

I contacted Gamptap, but they wouldn't tell me anything as im international. Fair enough, but i kept talking with the tech support and learnt that they were have some problems with their servers! Well, frankly that answered my question! I did eventually get back on, only to be bumped out again in 10 mins.

I'm still waiting to hear back from Cyan, but i'll be intrested to know if it was a server problem?

Just throwing in my tuppence, I've had a good solid connection with no Network6 disconnects since Live was made "official." I use DSL, and although I have a wireless router, my own PC is connected via Ethernet.

So like the others who have posted, I'd also suspect your router, and it sounds like you may have gotten it sorted.

I use AVG anti-virus, which only updates on system startup, so I leave it activated during Uru sessions. On the other hand, I turn off Outlook, Skype, and MSN Messenger while playing Uru. Even though they haven't actually caused the game to malfunction, I don't like having to Alt-TAB out to reply to Skype or MSN messages.

And to be honest, I don't recall at the moment whether I have my Windows firewall activated or not. I'm at work, or I'd check.

Best of luck,

Mowog
