Well, everyone's makin suggestions for UruLive, and in an effort not to be left out, I have one of my own.

I remember seeing in the Uru: Complete Chronicles game guide, in the back of the 'making of' section, I saw concept art for a D'ni speedboat...and that got me thinking...instead of having to link absolutely everywhere anytime you wanted to travel outside the city to another neighborhood or something, why not take a speedboat? I'm sure the logistics of it can't be that hard; just dial in where you want to go and it'll take you there within a minimal wait period; either that or come up with a simple steering mechanism so you can decide where you're going. Then, if you're able to steer, and there's more than one speedboat in the dock, then you and a few buddies can have a race in the cavern. Very Happy I think that would be really cool, and allow for a lot more player freedom around the city.

That would require all the neighborhoods and d'ni areas to be in the same Age, which is kind of unfeasible.

With the quicker loading we saw in Myst V it wouldn't be that impossible. You could load the Age in background while, on screen, you get a cutscene of the boat sailing across the lake or something like that.
Still, not much point in sailing to the 'hoods, considering that they are sealed. Wink

I saw a picture of a hood from the outside (flymode, I think), and it looked quite impregnable. Maybe there's a dock underneath, and stairs leading up to one of the locked doors.

Hmm...instead of having it all in one age, why not have barriers so there's a limit to how far the boats can travel, keeping rendering to a minimum? I guess the greatest advantage here would be the ability to race or simply putt around the cavern. As far as the neighborhoods go, I think the idea to put a small dock and stairs at the bottom of a few of them would make it possible for the boats to land. And what about k'veer? K'veer has a dock, so that's at least one place to go.

Nobody think of dynamic liading such in TES? It's possible to make single D'ni age. There are cards with enough memory to keep this meshes and textures. LODs will help to not overload chipset with unneeded rendering - see distant lands in Oblivion (one of it's most revolutionary things for me). We live in 2006, not 1999...

Unless I'm mistaken, Plasma 2.5 supports dynamic loading. It's one of the reasons the load time for EoA is SO much faster than it is for Uru.

A single D'ni instance would be nice Very Happy I'd heard though that there was supposed to have been plans to raise one of the sunken boats and make it oporational again to take people on ferry rides (posably to K'veer and other island mansions that the DRC have made safe)

And I'd really really love to be able to expore the tunnels, I remember seeing a screenshot of a segment of the tunnels that dosn't appear in EoA.

I'd like to be able to walk the entire distance; Surface to D'ni.

See this opens an option to us, those who want to take the tunnels and shun Yeesha are allowed to, those who don't can take Relto. Yes so eventually they will need to go the Yeesha path but it allows you to feel like you have a choice. In uru I felt spearheaded into taking yessha's journey.

I would like that too. Maybe those were the DRC's original plans, before Zandi and Yeesha started letting people into the cavern without authorisation?

me too Very Happy even if it does take a few days to make the journey Wink it will be worth it Smile.. being able to save the spot u were last at if u want to exit the game would be good to, instead of always appearing in relto by default Smile then u could set up camp for the night Wink hehe

Each rest area could be a save point or a nexus point or something, so even if you do start back at your relto, you just go to the nexus and go to the last rest area you stopped at in the tunnels.

I think saving of last position is some kind of KI upgrades.

You could simply do what Half Life 2 does when it needs to load in the middle of a level; freeze the screen and pop up a loading bar at the bottom, then continue the scene as soon as it’s done. This would allow you to go from the surface, to the great shaft, to the lake, and all the way to K’veer or the city itself in one go. I could even see adding multiple islands to one age with this sort of system.

The sudden change in your buddy list would be sorta strange though...Maybe it could be explained away by saying that the KI's are so far away from the age's Great Zero they went from "access point" to "ad-hoc" mode (anybody who's worked with a wireless network will know what I'm talking about here), and therefore are out of range from the primary KI network of the age. That would also explain why you cant communicate with people in the city from the hoods or the surface without specifically directing your KI only at them and connecting with them via a PM.
