Hi all,

Sorry for the long time in between updates. The silence was not by design or by any dark undertones. Sadly, there is not much to report. I am *still* waiting for a particular ex-Cyan person to send me code changes that only he can make. I know that sounds odd but unfortunately it is the truth and until I have those changes the open source can't proceed. I know that he has been heavily involved in a major release of the product he is working on, so I understand (a little bit).
After that is done, I may ask for some help from a few chosen individuals to help with readying the sources further.

On a different note: Cyan has been working with another company on something (slightly but completely) different. Of course, I can't reveal anything yet but hopefully something will be available late summer, this year. I know that is coming up quickly and it is taking all of our energies.

I could write a small book about the many transformations that Cyan has gone through over the years. Even though I was not at Cyan from the beginning, there was only one ex-Cyan employee at the time I was hired. For the most of that history, we have been a quiet, shy company that let our products do the talking. With the rise of UruLive that had to change because the game was about community and Cyan sharing itself with that community, albeit in our own shy way. So, after UruLive was canceled, Cyan has reverted back to it roots of being that quiet, shy company again, albeit not quite as shy as before.

Thanks for everyone's support.
Chogon

I appreciate that you found this little nugget where it was buried, brushed it off, and set it on top for us all to enjoy, Cris.

To clarify my post: it is indeed good to hear from them. Cyan isn't a very communicative company (which is their right, and has its benefits), so as fans, we all appreciate every update we can get.

But we've been asked to have cautious optimism, and to manage our expectations. Under those circumstances, I don't consider it a good idea to spin a post with the word "Sadly" in it into "happy news". They have a new project (they better!), and their open sourcing has been stalled because it depends on an external factor. That's positive news, but I'd rather not call it "happy".

Funny, that sure is a nice picture. Great photography.

I've seen that around. Too bad the photographer doesn't get credit.

Well, the news regarding Uru is interesting. Not particularly postive, but not negative either. The hint at another upcoming project, now THAT'S some positive news! Good to hear they're working on something that won't just be wasting their time and resources (Uru, no matter how badly I want it back, falls into this category).

It might be a semi-postive update, but I'm definitely not going to say "happy" until we hear more. Reading about some of the games that CyanTest was running QA for a while back is a real downer, even if it did result in at least a little funding for them.

So, we're just waiting on one guy to deliver the source codes. Right. Let's go find him in his lair and drag him back to Cyan!

Seriously, though, it's great to have some more information from Chogon. The community is friendly, honest - no need to be shy! (Some are more "friendly" than others, but we won't get into that....)

"slightly but completely different..."

Translation: Open Sourse Uru Live (MOOS)

Reason: Slightly different because it's a break from Cyan being shy. Completely different because this is the first open source project Cyan has done like this (not counting UntilUru). Who knows, the project may have gotten more support and funding within Cyan thanks to the success of iMyst. (which sadly I still can't download until the iPod Nano has a touch screen, and even then I can't.)

More reasoning: I vaguely remember Chogon (or Tweek, I can't remember who) saying that after iMyst Cyan would have more time to focus on MOOS. Maybe that's still internal and this is something completely non-Myst related, but who knows...
(We know it isn't UbiSoft or they would have said something at E3 if it's coming later this year)
