Ok, I've been hearing a lot of reasons why people won't/can't donate to Cyan. Lets post the reason here and respond with some thoughts on the issue. I'll start:

1. I don't have a pay-pal account and don't want one (pick your reason).

I don't have one either and I donated. The link doesn't require you to set up an account- mearly enter a credit card number and tell them how much to take out. You don't even have to go through the registration process.

2. Money is tight right now and I can't afford it.

Ok, this one may make sense, but ask yourself-
Did I go to a movie recently?
Did I eat out at a fast food place?
Did I have a few beers? Pack of cigarettes?

Skip any of the above a few times and you have a good monthly donation. Where can you get cheaper entertainment for $10/month than URU.

3. The game isn't worth anything.

So why are you here? Go away and we will understand.

I'm sure I'll get flamed over this topic, but now is the time to step up and fight. Pay for URU/Mo:ul/More or lose it!!!

Can't see why you would get flamed - seems perfectly sensible.

Its not as if you have to do it, bit churish not to mind. :D

That said I have somekind of problem, the page keeps insisting I have entered a zero amount when I haven't. :?

Dam it all.
I couldn't think of any reasons not to...so I did.
Maybe if you had posted this earlier...no. I'd still donate.
Why didn't you(generic)?

I can think of another reason.

My credit card is maxed out and currently paying it off.

Till its paid off i'm not buying anything or donating anything, as money is very tight.

When I can I will, it just won't be for a month or two

Before I even downloaded the client, I had donated. Just $10, but I plan to donate that at the least on a monthly basis. I am totally behind this revival of URU, and I'm happy to give money to CYAN and not some publisher, when clearly, we don't really NEED one. URU is a special kind of game that appeals to special kinds of gamers. There aren't many (or to my knowledge ANY) games like URU out there, and I want to do whatever I can to help spread the word and support Cyan to bring URU back to the life that it was always meant to play host to. I want to continue the journey, to continue with the fantastic storyline that Cyan has created, and now, more than ever - experience what ages fans have and will be inspired to create.

URU is the only MMO I have ever cared enough for to play, nevermind having no qualms whatsoever about paying out $10 of my money for. I know that there are many others that are like-minded, and those that aren't - But I sincerely feel that this is our big chance to make this thing something that goes beyond our wildest dreams, something that brings Cyan the credit they deserve as a creative company, and the funding it needs to continue making fantastic games.

I might seem to some as adoring of Cyan, but I am. I have been a fan since the very first time I played MYST, and have been at my happiest when delving into the worlds that they have created and inspired. These guys are my heroes. They bring me wonder and joy, and for that, I'd gladly part with $100 a month if I could afford to do so. Until then, I'm easily parted with $10 or even $20 a month - More than twice what it would have cost while URU was under Gametap - Easily, the cost of most mid-range games, but it's worth that to me to have the opportunity to travel to new worlds, solve new puzzles, and help support a unique company that I will not see fade away.

But, those are my reasons. I should hope that some of you will donate because it directly benefits Cyan. These guys don't need publishers or marketers, they have us! If you want to help support Cyan, but can't afford to - Spread the word!

I suspected to see these "if you don't donate monthly than you are not welcomed" topics... well I'm not going to flame you, but the things you said there aren't very true. Donations are very nice indeed, but they are donations- and you don't *have* to donate. It's up to you.

Actually, I said if the reason not to donate was the game wasn't worth anything, then you should probably leave. I didn't say you are not welcome if you enjoy the game but don't donate. It is up to you.

You may have a good reason not to donate, this topic is to list those reasons.

Some may consider not donating as a matter of principle is a valid reason, some may prefer the reason "is none of your business."

Welcome to the city. One thing I'm sure of, if not enough people donate, URU will go away again.

True, but you can't tell people "Pay for URU/Mo:ul/More or lose it!!!". I'm pretty much sure there will always be those who will donate a sum of money once in a while, out of good will. Those who can't (or don't want to) don't have to. You can't order people to donate in such an aggressive way.

I can donate, I have donated and I will continue to donate.
However, I believe it is not up to us to decide what anybody should do without to be able to donate. For URU to survive, to stay alive, it is important that people play URU, enjoy to play URU and spread the word that it is worth to play URU.
Then more people will come in and that means there will be more people who can and will donate.

How about "I'd like to donate but don't have either a credit card or pay pal account. How do I send a check?"
