One thing that always bothered me was the lack of captions in the MYST games.

Is there a mod or patch that adds them?

My sound is broken, sadly.

I'm not sure if there are captions in Uru (there isn't much dialogue anyways), however there are cations in Myst V.

What about the other Myst titles?

Myst III, IV and V have captions. Myst, Riven and Uru do not.

Not to derail this thread, but I must say that Myst III and V have laughable captions... Some selections:
No no no no no no no no no no no! -- Saavedro (Exile ending)

*Squee chirps* -- Exile sound puzzle

Ahahahahahahahahahahaha! -- Esher (End of Ages bad ending)

No no! No no! Noooooooooooooooooooo! -- Esher (End of Ages good ending)

Ahem, on topic! I didn't know that Revelation had captions. How do you get them?

MYSTlore has a lot of transcripts here. Unfortunately, that's the best we can get :)

You turn them on in the game options.

I don't know who wrote Revelation's captions, but he/she should've been fired though. :P During the sound puzzle half of the time the captions don't match what Atrus is saying (e.g. he says "try moving the slider" and the caption is "try selecting a different signal"). There's several spelling mistakes too (neckless instead of necklace in one instance, confusing principal and principle somewhere).

If I remember correctly, the translation team for M4 was french, and didn't speak English very well. They also didn't have anyone who could speak English fluently double check them.

IIRC the captions for Myst IV are in French, but a patch allows English captions.

All your age are belong to us. You have no chance to link make your time.

I just patched my Revelation for the first time the other day (never knew there *was* one, but hey it enabled me to FINALLY do that blasted mangree finale in Haven for the first time ever!), and noticed the subtitle option was actually available. It's funny really; usually if there's subs available I'll turn them on for at least a playthrough, but I guess Myst's sort of, shall we say, eccentric dialogue is better experienced heard, not read :D

Myst, realMyst, and Riven do not have subs; I just confirmed.

Those bits of dialogue were pretty laughable in any form. :)

I just wish they could have gotten William Shatner in on the cast. I imagine the captions would look something like this, "Wait...! What. Do..... Youthinkyou'redoing??? That's. An electric. Fence!!!" :)

I think captions for NPC speech or sound puzzles would be very helpful, especially for hearing-impaired folks.

They're even funnier when Darth Vader says them. :D
