Me and A bunch of other explorers noticed this guy. You can't select him to see his name and he disappears seemingly at random. Any ideas?

Edit: Oh, BTW, He also appeared and disappeared for different people. A friend of mine could see the guy on one of his accounts, but not the other, and I had to link out and back in to see him.

The hat is the helmet/lamp that is reserved for Restoration Engineers (OOC: Cyan employees). It's pretty rare to actually see one in the cavern, especially these days. ResEng's can flit about the place pretty much at will, but they don't usually hide their names.

They don't want to be tracked down because the only good food in the Cavern is in the cafeteria where they're all holed up and keeping it for themselves. Ever ask a ResEng where the cafeteria is and get a straight answer? ... I didn't think so.

Or in the alternative, It's not a ResEng and is instead just a resourceful explorer whose using an internal client built open source release. The internal clients allow extra clothing options like the hat, and access to the Console so you can do things like link at will and disappear or go invisible.

Well, I do find it interesting that Dogherra was online viewing this forum around the time that I read Jamey's post earlier.

I have reason to believe that Jamey's guess is correct. 8)

if this really is a restoration engineer, if he's gonna wear the hat and be visible he might as well walk up and introduce himself. rather impolite for him to be so candid if you ask me. i didn't even really know there were any resengs anymore. if there are still explorers with reseng status and privileges i can't see how it's of any use these days. all it would seem to amount to anymore is a special hat. if this isn't a reseng this it's somebody using special tools which would probably mean hax.

This was a legitimate ResEng appearance. Don't sound the hax alarms.

It would be nice if ResEngs wouldn't do things that look like hacks or someone testing some experimental network code though. Just a suggestion.

I was all ready to sound the alarms over this, but after seeing what Hoikas looked up... yeah, this looks like a legitimate reseng appearance.

I'm a bit disappointed we have a reseng showing off, especially when there's been no announcement that Cyan was even bringing one on to the team. This is the sort of thing that causes drama around these parts.

sheesh... add "hax" to the list of blacklisted words. just a mere mention is enough to instill widespread panic. well, if there is a legitimate reseng about it would be nice if he'd say hello.
