It depends on whether you are talking about an African or European swallow. The airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow is roughly 11 meters per second, or 24 miles per hour*, beating its wings 7-9 times per second (rather than 43). But please note that a 5 ounce bird cannot carry a one pound coconut. *Based upon published species-wide averages of wing length and body mass, initial Strouhal estimates based on those averages and cross-species comparisons, the Lund wind tunnel study of birds flying at a range of speeds, and revised Strouhal numbers based on that study gives an estimate that the average cruising airspeed velocity of an unladen European Swallow is roughly 11 meters per second, or 24 miles per hour.

A quick update: I've had a bit of a setback. The cryptic story is that C supports M using P. F and E only support M using S. P is easy. S is hard. Also, I've never made anything in S before...so now I have to learn. The bad news is that it took me all evening just to get S working using something simple and now I've got to read up on how to recreate what I did in P in S instead. The good news is we're only talking about a couple of days.

If you still want to sign up for the beta, please do. The more the merrier. We're still looking at a mid-September beta test. However, I do need to give a little bad news: not everyone will be chosen. Based on the responses to the questions I've had, a few people will be unable to participate. Most of you will so please don't let this discourage you from applying. On the other hand, the answers given have made me consider an additional feature that would allow more of you to participate. It may add a couple of more days of development time and I'd need to get additional responses to reinforce the idea.

All that being said, I thank you all for your continued interest which helps to motivate me every day!
