There is talk of a game room in the hood. I would assume when you enter you would be able to play games with your friends. What sort of games would you like to see. I have made the selections broad (ie: Card & Board) but you can add a message to list your favorite under these.

Card & Board - Solitaire, Spades, Backgammon
Word & Trivia - Upwords
Puzzle - Tetris

Since the game already present in the hood, a public space, is heek, I don't see any of the games as single player. You can be on your personal GameTap for those.

Heek is good, but it doesn't seem quite Cyanish to limit the hoods to one. Tetris (or others of that sort) on a vewer would be neat - with one or two player options maybe. I have NO idea of the difficulty involved in creating such a thing, however.

There are the hammer whack types too - also with single or multi-player possibilities. Not mentally challenging maybe, but fun. If Cyan can get the necessary copyrights (actual Tetris rights are reported to be tightly held) I'd love to see them in the hood's game room.

I don't want to see surface games in the D'ni game room. There is at least one game, Gehmehdeht, that could go in there.

Yeah, I don't think that we will be seeing any surface games in there.
The D'ni probably had their own games in their game room

Yeah, but keep in mind that was a Gehn invention.. I still remember chuckling at the strategy guide's description of it "after playing another round of feed the fish.."

I voted for Puzzle, because I think it's in the spirit of Uru. Card games are too 'surfacy', arcades too self contained.

I like the sound of a D'Ni Culture game, but haven't a clue what the mechanics of such a thing would be. Is it trivia? Word games? Connect the dots? Will we need a puck and kneepads?

Can someone illuminate me?

Gee, don't think to look ot the FAQ or anything. People write that for the fun of it, after all.

Gee, Whilyam, that was very helpful.

Well, sorry. I don't feel very nice towards people who come in cussing because they don't know about the corething this site is based on. Still... that doesn't make it any more right... I'll edit it with a link to the D'ni info.

Would you be happy if they took a surface game and gave it a D'ni name?

I say this because most of the "D'ni" games are not very original and are simple variations of surface games. Heek is basically "Rock, Paper, Scissors". The Gahreesen Wall "game" is based on "Mind Maze". Even Gemedet is a variation of Qubic, if I understand it correctly (Qubic was a 4 in a line game played on a 4 by 4 by 4 grid, whereas Gemedet is 6 in a line on a 9 by 9 by 9 grid). Of course Qubic, Score Four (kind of a 3D Connect 4), and Connect 4 all have their basis in Tic-Tac-Toe.

I'm not criticizing Cyan for basing games on already existing games, I'm just pointing out that many of the games mentioned in this thread could be changed slightly and given a new D'ni name. For example, I once wrote a game I called "Pentris" that was basically Tetris, except all the shapes contained 5 blocks instead of 4 (and every possible variation of 5 blocks were included). The game was quite playable, but it wasn't original (and I would be quite surprised if I was the only person to do such a variation). Given how much the D'ni seemed to like the number 5, perhaps a renamed "Pentris" would make sense!
