There's a location mentioned in the Guild of Archivists age article for Minkata which is as follows:

Quote:
If players venture far enough away from the cage and Bahro holes, they will find what appears to be the ruins of an old battle fortress or cathedral. It is unknown if these are mirages or real structures, as near them are also what seem to be pools of water with strange plants growing in them. Finally, a mettalic structure houses a spiral staircase leading underground and also what seems to be a Linking Book. No one has ever been able to reach this area, as a huge metal grate covers its top.

I have not seen any other mentions of this area nor have I seen it after extensive searching. Is this legend, or something actually there? It is hard to tell from the article.

Thanks for the information, if anybody knows.

That sounds like Surprise in Minkata which was fan fiction. If that's what it is, I'm quite surprised that it's included in the GoA's Minkata page.

Belford wrote a nice blog post about it: A completely different Myst fan game.

ah, wonderful thank you...

I had been wondering about that for a long time. I will read through this.

Glad to have the mystery solved. Thanks again.

Yes, it's definitely not a "real" location. I wish it were! (me having completely covered the entire Minkata map looking for anything hidden like that when I first read it.)

Sadly, there are no hidden surprises in Minkata.

Haha.. I understand. I spent several hours with my partner struggling to look through the Minkata sands (both day and night...) for this location.

I wish there were! It would be amazing.

Well, you kinda can visit it.

There also once was a downloadable local version which no longer exists in the interwebs. But I will check with our local packrat archivist and see if there is a copy stashed somewhere!

Haha, it's ready to be grabbed and enjoyed, just have a look into your 'mailbox' lol, though it is very different from the forums Minkata version, it has actually nothing in common with our familiar 'Minkata', you'll see, but it's certainly worth looking into, nevertheless ... :D

(As Norfren was saying that he had other plans with this project and would therefore leave the link for only two weeks, I don't dare to post it publicly here without his explicit consent ... :) )

@Ainia: Speaking of deserts, it looks like the construction on new Hwy-62 is complete, and they've redone the bus times along what is now known as Old Hwy-62.

It now only stops out only @Stan's sporadically during the week. Just thought I'd let you know in case anyone asks!

See ya!

In addition to the sparkly, there are two well-known surprises (or goodies).

Well now I am totally hooked on the on-line version and getting nowhere fast. I have, however, managed to gather a few things...

Does this online version actually lead somewhere or is it still unfinished? ;-)
