I like the concept of a group puzzle.
I have solved the puzzle three times, but only through the door twice.

However, it seem to me "inherently" wrong that the door does not stay open for the group that solved the puzzle.

If a group is needed to solve the puzzle, then the group (entire group) should be rewarded. No one should be left behind.

I felt really sorry for those members of my groups who worked hard to solve the puzzle but did not get through the door.

Could the door stay open until all cloth pressers get through?
Increase the length of the timer that the door stays open?
All cloth pressers must press a button (inside the door) to close the door?
Other suggestions? Opinions?

If nothing else; it lets you know who's nice/appreciative enough to come back for those left behind.

Who are the real team players here. Who you don't want to take with you to the next group puzzle.

The door will stay open for as long as the cycle would have continued to run.

i.e. The faster you solve the puzzle, the more time you have to get through.

(Also, it is entirely possible for an entire group to get through the door if they want to, even if the door starts to close the moment it opens fully.)

I wouldn't mind if the timer were set a little longer, but in coming up with alternatives we should remember the possibility that one of the cloth-pressers might leave halfway through an attempt. Then keeping the door open until all the cloth-pressers have entered or manually close the door might leave it stuck open.

My solution to all the comments so far would be...

1- If a group of two or more people visit the door puzzle, it should stay the same.

2- But if a user has a private hood, there would be an automatic detector if only only one person was in Delin and would reset the timer for a longer playing time. And in case the hood owner did send a few invites, the puzzle would reset automatically, to the multiplayer level.

And this way, everybody would be happy.

I found the method you are referring to, but now I am wondering... feature or bug exploit? :?

Huh?

Neither. All I'm saying is that the time it takes for the door to open and then close again is enough time for a person at the farthest cloth to run to the door and through it.

That's... a feature. Definitely not a bug.

*boggles*

If you've found something unexpected, report it as a bug.

So we are not talking about the same thing then. There is a way to keep that door open. And it won't close until everyone has left the age.

So I guess it is a bug. Next time I will log it and submit a ticket.

That's not precisely so... some of us are not as quick and never will be.

A female avatar has a shorter stride (also does not see things at the same angle as a male avatar, though that's not relevant in this case).

This particular player has arthritis which slows her hand movements down.. it's much more likely she'll bungle a corner turn... and frankly it's just not even fun trying .. it hurts. Fortunately most activities in Uru are more forgiving. If I had not been invited to go through at a time when the door was open an unusually long time.. I would still not have gone through. Although I have helped others a number of times, I just can't make it.

Of course I didn't report this as a bug or anything, but I'm really hoping that other instances of group solving will not be so time constrained.

Isn't that a good reason to talk to your 'hoodies and arrange to stand at the cloth nearest the door?

This puzzle is actually quite a good group puzzle. It not only requires organising sufficient players to complete the puzzle but also arranging people so they are able to get to the door. In the case of a team member who has the issues butterpaw talks about, the team should position them close to the door. Thats what teamwork is all about ensuring that all members of the team are able to share in the teams success.

That's not so. Male and female avatars walk and run at the same speed.

Along with what darkstar and Rusty said, what could help for players who have trouble getting to the door fast is to head for the door after they push their cloths. Sure, it'd make resetting take longer, but there's more of a chance that everyone would get in when the door opens. *shrug*

The Guild of Cartographers found enough of a difference that they specifically use the male-avatar running stride as the official standard of measurement. Though re-testing that might be a good idea to make sure it hasn't changed in the current incarnation of Uru.

I know this is probably obvious, and adds to the confusion with all the tries it usually takes to get the door open. But the simplest way to get everyone; well at least all but the last person thru the door with more then enough room to spare, is have them head to the door the moment their pusher dutiy is done.

It leads to some funny moments and slightly longer false start times, but it gives everyone but the last pusher several extra seconds.
