Something ive been having problems with after playing through some of the myst games and thinking about the books.
Writing ages only creates a link to travel to already present ages right?
How come in "The book of Atrus", Ghen leaves Atrus in riven and makes some changes to the book, clearing the surrounding fog?
Is this a coincidence, or did Ghen link to another age where someone with the same memory as Atrus just happened to see the fog clear?
This occurred again in myst 4, Sirrus woke one day in Spire and say the new room Atrus wrote to meet his son once more. The rest of spire i understand can be explained by a previous long dead inhabitant, or wind chipping the stone, but this appeared overnight.
Is the d'ni writing merely making a link as Atrus explains it, or creating and changing a world as G'hen believed.
Thanks in advance.

Once you've linked to an Age, you can make some real but limited changes by adding new passages to the Descriptive Book. It's very difficult to do correctly, and if you stretch things too far, the link drifts to a different Age.

Most of these rules only apply to the D'ni book technology and the traditions that go along with it, not to the Art itself. The D'ni were very cautious. You could probably do some pretty crazy things with a Book if you weren't too worried about the results.

An early concept for Riven had Atrus helping you by making visible changes to the age as you explored.

Wow, thats pretty awesome.
You could really mess with some primitive civilisation, by making a statue or a small hut appear in the middle of the village at midday
Well thanks for the clarification

You could really mess with any civilization that way... tasteless examples come to mind
