That was the one I thought it was. The path and stuff going up the volcano made me look elsewhere though. Plus, there was too much green on it. The one that I found originally didn't really have any green. There was a lot of dark stuff though.

Unfortunately, the cleft volcano is much smaller than Capulin.

EDIT:

Ok after a little searching I've come up with a couple possibilities.

Site 1: 32°30'23.44"N, 104° 3'2.15"W
Site 2: 32°57'18.76"N, 103°49'43.68"W
Site 3: 32°55'49.52"N, 103°57'57.75"W

Let me know what you think.

This may sound strange but...
I seem to remember seeing a scan of a fax from Zandi that was sent to one of the mysteriums where he apologized for not being able to attend and a GPS unit with coordinates on it's screen.
This was a long time ago..

A fax with GPS coords? Sounds like it was during the Preafter phase. At that point in Uru history, Zandi buried symbols in the ground in locations and had puzzles to find the coords for them, or something of that sort. Yes, it was real geocaching a decade ago or however long.

The cleft is likely an amalgum of a few places found, like the caldera there, or that one large fissure in the ground, or other ideas. It all blends together, kind of like how there is no one "relto" place but we've found spots that Cyan employees probably visited and drew inspiration from.

Proof positive of the origins of the Cleft.

Something along the line of "known by their faces of stone" was my bookmark but the link is broken now. I'm sure somebody has a better memory than mine.

Try going to Antelope canyon, near Page, Arizona, or the Fiery Furnace in Arches National Park. You also might like Mesa Verde National Park, it has real Kivas. :)

Speaking of Kivas, what about a connection between the Hopi Indians (and related cultures; Navajo, Pueblo, etc.)? As I recall, some of these people believe themselves to be descendants of an underground civilization whose entrance is somewhere in the southwest.

Also, I have heard of more than one story of underground civilizations in that area from various online sources (not very reputable, probably, but interesting nonetheless). One such story places a shaft into an advanced but extinct civilization near Death Valley.

Ran into some Carlsbad Caverns just now in Slaughterhouse Five by Kurt Vonnegut. It's mentioned on page 89. I would have hoped for more detail on it though.

Is there a real cleft? Yes!

Next thing you know, someone will if Santa Claus is real!

Just drive through New Mexico. Some sandstone hills can change shape quickly or slowly, so determining which part of New Mexico is the cleft that leads to the city might take a long time, but Uru players are thorough! And clever!

(And on the Santa thing....those who do not believe do not receive.)

ps- tanshin, i love your signature!!
