I find that I'm a bit annoyed by the case-sensitive sorts used in the Nexus list and in the people lists in my KI. It seems a little ridiculous to have to look in two sections of a list because you can't remember whether "John Smith" goes by "John" or "john" in-Cavern.

Having a jump-to-the-first-letter search capability would also be nice. UO hood currently has more than 290 members, so it takes a lot of scrolling to get down to, say, names beginning with "S". And even more scrolling to get down to names beginning with "s".

What do you all think? Should either or both of these be put in as feature requests?

I agree, it's annoying and should get fixed. Switch all resources to fixing it? No. But get a move on it? Sure. It's past time to do that. Also a "delete all" button on things like Recent and the journal entries/KI images.

Personally, I think they're waiting to develop a redesigned KI instead of adding little bits, so we may have to wait a while.

Excellent idea! And very easy to implement. In fact I implemented it just now in my Until Uru adminKI. :)

Dude you are soooo late :p

I submitted both feature requests several month ago ... I think Sep 2005.

And...?

Did you also ask for a click-and-hold autoscroll on the KI and Nexus lists?

It's just a three line fix in UU and maybea one liner in MOUL if they are using Python 2.4

Code:
>>> deco = [ (user.lower(), user) for user in users ]
>>> deco.sort()
>>> sorted_users = [ user for low, user in deco ]

or

Code:
users.sort(key=str.lower)

I've sent Cyan the code for the fix several months ago but nobody added it to the KI. :(

I don't think you want to put up with the freezes that would cause. Single record modification scripts is the way to go I am afraid.

Threading, async or deferred programming is the way you want to go. There is always a solution to an issue. If a function is I/O bound and blocks than the programmer has to move the body of the function to a thread or deferred function. It's not as easy as a linear function but it is going to reduce server and network load and it adds a better user experience to the game.

I asked about alphabetization a few months ago too. I also asked for an ability to use a scroll button to speed up the scrolling. It would be so much easier.

Well they're obviously working on it, no need to get insulting just because you haven't seen results fast enough...

Sure, let's wait another year for another total rewrite of the server and client code. :roll:

Speaking of case sensitivity/insensitivity...

I'd like to know why someone cannot create three avatars named "Example", "example", and "eXaMpLe"... yet I must capitalize a person's name exactly as spelled when I use /p, /addbuddy, or /removebuddy.

The KI interface really needs to be improved. Scrolling, sorting, deletion...the list goes on and on.

Seconded... That one really threw me. I mean, case-insensitive non-duplicate policy, but case-sensitive KI? Just doesn't make sense...
