I have been through the common problems thread to no avail. I have tried every download on the play page still checking for patcher, or initializing patcher with no progress please help

Welcome olorin69.

Did you use the recommended... Fileplanet (Full Install - Recommended) on the play tab ?

It is a very big download file(1,183,963 KB) and depending of your internet connection speed it might take a lot of time.

If you use Windows 7 you will find the MOULInstallerv887.exe in the downloads page on your start menu.
you just need to left-click it to start the installation process.

If you are not using Win 7 it would be a good idea for you to tell us which operating system you have.

Edit: if you use Windows Vista/Win7 or Win8.1 do not forget to run every applications as "run as administrator"

i got the same problem and why recommend a download if already it was instaled???
can some one tell us what happen with the game???

On a whim I signed out of my pc user and switched to GUEST , URU started right up with no problems.

When you get stuck at updating the patcher, close it, open task manager (ctrl-shift-esc), look for urulauncher.exe in the list and end process on all of them, try again.
