Well, it appears Gorobay is surging ahead here not just on the basis of voluminous output, which evidences a very vogonesque gusto for the task, but also for presuming we should have all simply understood that the poems he entered in a poetry contest were meant to be sung and not just sung but sung to someone else's music, and not just sung to someone else's music but sung on top of someone else's lyrics - a sort of smorgasord of awful, if you will. Such audicious lack of talent comes upon us but once in a lifetime, and I think we can all rest easier knowing that!

(Gorobay, I think you should videotape yourself doing this and YouTube it! I smell a cult hit...or I smell something anyway...)

However, Tai'lahr gets a special mention for whining like a needy third grader. That strikes just the right tone, in my opinion!

On the other hand, Zimt gets a smelly dead quab and one pointy shard of unbreakable crystal for telling us his mother is a high school English teacher. Information like this needs to be put where it belongs, namely in poetic rant laying bare the emotional scars of being raised by a highschool English teacher. Think Syliva Plath. You could call it "Oh, Stationwagon Woman!"

For all you poetry-haters out there, I've got yet another voluminous piece of output; a song, of course. Here it is:

Ahnosalem

And did those feet in ancient time
Walk upon D'ni's orange lake?
Well of course not, for they would sink,
Rust, and the infrastructure'd break.
Where does his countenance divine
Shine forth betwixt our scaffolding?
In Ahnonay; 'twas builded there
Along with the ball he's holding.

Bring me my KI of marble bright!
Bring me something so I can see!
It is so dark! I need some light!
Show me the massive effigy!
I will not leave despite my fright,
Of the large ball in his hand.
What if it falls? You know it might
Crush me upon this metal land.

By the way: Why are doing this only for Ahnonay?

Lost in Minkata

I'm lost in Minkata,
can't get any smarter,
by looking at the stars.
THERE I should find the path??!!

I switch to day,
and the smartness decays,
for I am now only one
with the dust in the wind.
THESE flags are no sufficient hint!!

I try to kick the bones
and fall into some holes.
I break my leg,
oh what a heck!
NOW this age will only be harder!

Tradition! Anyway, the worst type of Ahnonay poetry is the kind that isn't about Ahnonay, so congratulations!

I have another, this time a poem:

An Ahnonay Bestiary

Ning tree, quab, tuft of grass:
These we note as oft we pass.
In addition to all those
We must mention the terrose.

Most would stop the list and say,
"There is no more in Ahnonay,"
Forgetting that which we know well,
Our canine friend the doggerel.

When life has you down
Kick a Quab
When wearing a frown
Kick a Quab

No other beastie
From west to the eastie,
is abusably easy
Kick a Quab!

(Next verse?)

Hitana - Tradtion! Indeed. Where has all the time gone. I remember when the Ahonay Poetry contest was just another bad idea ahead of its time. 14 years already, or does it just feel that way?

The rules are that a poem qualifies as long as it has some connection to Ahnonay, even if by omission. Since you make no mention of Ahnonay, I'll allow it.

Gorobay - Do you think you could rename your poem "Blake's Ahnosalem" in honor of Gametap's Blake Lewin? On the other hand, people may confuse this with Blake Lewis, former American Idol dollboy and no fan of this competition. So could you just leave it as it is?

Your doggerel poem makes no mention of catalogues, so I have disqualified it.

Eleri - Kick a Quab! is a brilliant submission to the competition but doesn't match your first entry for its subtle inanity. However, the last line is what raises it above the norm. We are left in utter confusion as to whether (Next verse?) is the next verse, or is a note to yourself to remember to ask yourself whether or not you want to write another verse, or if you are soliciting verses in your own illicit subcategory of this contest! Very subversive. My head hurts!

JWPlatt - I wondered when the Flattheads might try to muscle in on Vogon territory! I say welcome! I say welcome again! I say welcome for a third time!

The only thing I have to say about your rather one dimensional entry is that gives the impression that it used to be a good poem until a piano fell on it from a great height. Were you suffering from a cold when you wrote it? Excellent!

;squish:

nerfy

So if you don't mention Ahnonay, you're in, but if you forget catalogs, you're disqualified? Hmm.

I was listed for ten years in the phone book under the fictitious name of "J. Pierpont Flathead" (from Zork). Only junk callers asked for "Mr. Flathead" and I knew I could hang up immediately without concern. Were you one of those rude solicitors? I demand to know how you got that information and connected it to me! <click>

Here's a limerick for you:

Rumours of an Age called Anohay,
that looks very much like Ahonay.

It drives me quite mad,
and really so sad
to see that people just can't spell Ahnonay!

Ah, the Starry Expanse of Ahnonay,
Where the starry-eyed lovers play
Picnicing on wine and cheese
And would you pass the crackers please?

One thing leads to another
and did you remember to bring some covers?
Lo, we will find passions embrace,
if I could just untie this * shoelace.

And as our starry lovers kiss
there's just one thing that they have missed
that that next step is a doozy
and looking down will make you woozy

With one steamy roll they leave the ground
and discover it's a looooong way down.
The news by KI is quickly spread
Making out in Ahnonay will leave you dead.
