Work continues on the Jungle island map. The shading is about half-way done.

Just wanted to share the progress with Jungle Island map, I don't know if anyone cares, but heck, I'll post about it anyway :)

Wow, that's looking really really good! I've always had trouble figuring out how the island looks as a whole (especially where those caves are), but that really puts it into perspective nicely!

Thanks! Yeah, I'm kind of trying to make the most accurate fan-made maps out there. They're based on the actual 3D models of the islands so they should be failry correct. :)

I'd also just like to say that it took me an insane amount of years to figure out where the eye is for the Wharks.
Even though that knife is so obvious, I still had no idea it was there.
Riven is widely regarded as the hardest of all the games, which is probably why I loved it the most ;)

It's obvious you must do this from memory....since you have no time to immerse yourself into the game anymore!!
These are awesome (Charura clicks on Riven Icon)

Haha! Well, yes, a lot is done from memory of course. I have to get around to get that application that can download all images from the Riven discs, that would help a lot. :)

Dear Sandman, I'm glad you found the time and passion to move on...
The Riven map is magnificent as everything you do... wow... :D

I just had a look and found the links to the Riven media extracter,
which extracts all media for all Cyan games and a few more...
Please, download Riveal 10.3 by Ron Hayter here...

This is the main page where you can see what games exactly are
supported by this app...

And I found an old but still easily working Riven Picture Viewer 1.1.1
which extracts every picture from Riven’s 'Mohawk' (MHK) data files
and presents them along with the image size ... You can download
it from here...

Just found another RivenImageViewer that works the same, but you
can switch the background color to black... it's on MYSTellany.com...

Yeah, Sandman, I wonder whether your name derives from Neil Gaiman's
comic series... You're doing such a great and passionate job, Sandman,
go on being inspired and having fun... :P

Thank you for the kind words! Yeah, I took the time to put up my Myst book at a few places in order to get feedback, which in turn fuels the inspiration. It just makes it easier if you know there is a receiving end :)

Thanks a lot! I actually did download Riveal before reading this and have downloaded all the images from disc 1-3 (all I had time with before something else came up) which is Boiler, Temple and Jungle. So now I have ample of direct references without having to play the game yet again.

I played it pretty much exactly one year ago, which is how I got ignoted with the Riven book, but work and play got oin between and when dormant, the finer details are lost to the inner eye. So this will be very helpful.

I get that question a lot, but alas - that is not the case. When I was in high school, I was madly in love with this girl who once every now and then told me she had dreamt about me (for whatever reason, we never became an item) and the leap from that to the Sandman is fairly short. So when the internet came along, my handle was fairly obvious to me.

And thank you for watching my books and commenting on them! It means the world!
I can't remember if you're on Mac or not but, if you are and don't know about it already, Riven X is the solution to running Riven on modern hardware. If you do want reference, it may be easier to use the game instead of the source files (since they're very unorganized).

I am on a Mac, but I have several PCs too so I've always just fired it up on them when I wanted to play them. BUt thanks for the info, if I ever find myself wanting to fire it up on my Mac :)

Wow! I just read through your Myst book and it was amazing! I love all the details you put into it.
I'm going to start paging through what you've done in your Riven book.
I hope you will keep working on projects like this for years to come. They're a joy to look at. :)
