It is a play on Wal-Mart an Americain Chain of stores, which are now across here in the UK and "Whark" which is whale type creature that used to live in Riven. If you have never played Riven then you will not now what it is or looks like.

If you haven't played Riven, you've walked through it's skeleton at the Cleft.

Yeah but Whark skeleton isn't as loveable as Wharky the Whark from Riven.
