Wonderful, greydragon ... This is so unbelievably awesome ... :)

I just got this in through my Cyan Fb feed and posted it on the Mysterium 2014 thread on the Cyan forums, so, as you and thus Cyan posted it here, I don't have to mention it here anymore, great ... :D

Interesting. Very interesting indeed.

Actually if you take this and scale it down to a resolution of approx. 30 by 30 pixels, it looks just like one of those documents you'd find in Sharper's office :)

I want to try that out! Totally sounds like something you'd find in Uru.

Is Venalem related to Serenia, Ahnonay or Obduction in any way?

Venalem isn't related to them in anyway.

[Reveal] Spoiler:
Venalem is an age that was integral for the ink making process used to make ink for linking books. Essentially the world was an ice world with these bulbs that would grow under water. The sub was used to dive underwater and cut a bulbs down at their stalks. The bulbs were then loaded into the harvester. At which time the beetles, used to make ink, were placed within the bulbs while in their larva stages. The bulb would serve as a terrarium while the harvester was rotated to simulate a quicker passage of time and thus a shorter gestation period for the beetles. Once the beetles reached maturity they were collected from the bulbs, and the bulbs were removed from the harvester, what the beetles didn't eat of the interior of the bulb during their life cycle, the workers would manually hollow the rest of the bulb out and then used them as living quarters and buildings within the landscape. They'd be retrofitted them with walkways in their interiors etc now that they were hollow.

Yay, this is fascinating material! :D

What I’m kinda missing now is a timeline of all these concepts – unfortunately the file modification dates are all from this year. I get the impression that some of these concepts evolved into others of them, but it’s hard to judge in which direction. Some appear to have evolved into different stuff that we now have in Uru, others might still have been planned to appear in the future (and may now be open to implementation by fans).

Any theories on what prompted this Concept Art Release?

Either the Fan Content movement inspired Cyan, or Cyan is inspiring the Fan Content movement. Maybe both? And during Mysterium was an appropriate choice.

Or they could have no motive and 'greydragon' was like 'hay we have all this concept art lrying around maybe we should publish it.' and Rand was like 'I don't see why that would be a problem.' So he published it.

or a subtle hints of what Rand wants us to build. I wish we could come together as a team and build ages but from experience that is difficult at best. Well it was when Theremin and I tried some years back. We made a backstory to drive the age creation and we always said that our vision wasn't set in stone if another had a better way or idea. We didn't want others to feel like they were making our age, but more of them making a group vision of an age...well we had two ages one linking from another. Keeping it within FCAL and stemming from the Fall of D'ni. I still dream of doing it but come to the realisation that it will never happen. If I had the skills to do it all I would but I can only do part, modelling and texturing. Wiring is not within me and don't have 3Dmax 7.

I love Blender and I am using it to render an image right now with Cycles. It is an all rounder and free. For me it is amazing piece of kit. If anyone is interested with what I have been doing for the last 5 years http://itiseyemeeszark.deviantart.com/ I render images using Daz Studio, Vue, Bryce and Carrara a little, with Poser two images and now Blender. The attached pic was rendered in Blender.

Image

The stand, glass case and name plate I modelled, the rest others made.
