I used orange for the background of the symbol containers. I'll see about changing the color value. As for the containers, I have to use a round one for the mountain; it's the shape of that graphic. By the way, the surface texture for the whole monogram is rippling water. That's another, more subtle reference to the swimming angle.

Here's a monogram for Rand Miller. I made one for RAWA, and that pretty much required I make one for his boss just to round things out.

For now, I'm going with a simple 'black print on wood' theme. The symbols are for games he's created or at least acted the role of Atrus in. from about 7:00 o'clock, the icons represent The Manhole, Cosmic Osmo, Myst, Riven, Exile, Revelation, End of Ages, and Uru.

I'm not really satisfied with it, so it may undergo alterations after I've let it roll around in my head for awhile.

Edit: Increased the size of the raised ring around the monogram, added a black ring around the lettering. Rolled Myst 5 and Uru into one symbol, and added Obduction in the place of symbol for Uru.

2nd edit: worked on the symbols a little. Moved the image down the topic.

Hi, Larry, re Rand's new design and your latest edits, my eye is drawn to the fact that the squee and the symbols for Cosmic Osmo, Manhole and Obduction are all grey where the others are all black. This creates a diagonal slant to the design. If you keep the symbols their existing colours, might you perhaps rotate the design slightly anticlockwise so the squee is at 12.00 and the other three grey symbols are balanced at the base? Or you could change them all to black, or mix and match the colours more randomly?

Just my feedback, hope helpful!

It's due to transparency in the alphas I made of those images. They were colored graphics, and the conversion process interprets the colors as gray scale screentones. I'm still working out how to tint them with a stronger black without losing detail.

not sure which application you are using Larry. in PSP i would use 'effects - black and white on coloured graphics. and then maybe add more contrast if needed.

Here's some more editing. The Manhole graphic was pretty poor, so I faked one. Changed Cosmic Osmo to a line graphic. Tried to darken the Squee and Seed images a little.

Edit: moved the image farther down the topic.
