Really? Huh, I thought they did. Is there anyway to force the images not to load until you want them to, short of just posting links? Although, posting links too might not be a bad idea.

I read the forums with a feed reader, this way I see the new posts one at a time.

I just noticed that the photograph I chose for gola has a very strong solar reflection off the sculpture's sword. Apparently, D'ni Justice wields a light saber.

I do not have much information about the puzzle, or if the words used in it were supplied by Cyan.

I've been told before that all the words in the crossword are real D'ni words.

The D'ni Crossword Puzzle, consisting of a list of 62 words written in D'ni script and a crossword grid in which to fit them all, was published in 1998 as part of a series of puzzles on the Rivenguild website, each puzzle revealing one of the letters of a D'ni word and picture, which was an early clue to the location of the Cavern.

Only a few of the entries in the Crossword were "known" to be D'ni words at the time, such as ahm; ne; re; ter; to; and there has been no official claim that RAWA constructed the puzzle, but there was some circumstantial evidence pointing to this fact. And perhaps more significantly, over the intervening years, many D'ni words that have been published in other ways have confirmed words originally published in the Crossword: atinor; ahl; eer; el; elon; fel; grahner; oenahzo; oner; oshahn; pahts; tah; trel.

Thanks. I searched, but couldn't find any background info on the puzzle.

I notice that the question of how to say ‘infinity’ came up earlier in this thread. The solution to this probably does lie in first figuring out how the D’ni would express the underlying idea of ‘finite’ which does seem likely to connect with the concept of ‘end’; since a finite series of numbers is one that has an end.

And we know how to say ‘finite series’ in the sense of ‘series having an end’. This would be comparable to boogin tromets ‘winged creature’ = ‘creature having wings’; thus:

bantee zuhets = ‘finite series’

The negative of this would be rilzuhets ‘infinite’ i.e. ‘not having an end’. If we want to turn this into an abstract noun meaning ‘infinity’ in the sense of ‘the quality of being infinite, an infinite thing’ then this would be comparable to jerooth ‘possibility’ = ‘the quality of being possible, a possible thing’; thus:

rilzuhetseth ‘infinity’.

I'll mull this over, although you're probably right. You are one of the folks whose understanding of D'ni I deeply respect.

...I'll never ask you to design a web page for me, though. To a web designer, the code behind your dictionary page in Eldalamberon is the equivalent of Nightmare on Elm Street. :D

So, what do you think of this project? Any good?

I have to admit I don't claim to be a web designer, nor did I write any of the HTML code for my Dictionary of the Language of D’ni webpage. I've aways used "wysiwyg" editing software, which generates the actual code for you. I would only fiddle with the code it there were some bug in the software preventing it from producing the text effect for which I was aiming. But as long as the page looks the way I’ve edited it when people browse it, I am not going to mess around with the underlying HTML -- that's for people with more spare time than I have :)

Khrees

So “endlessly” would be rilzuetsesh, or would riltezu work too?

I took a look at the HTML... it is quite a jumble, but I guess the main gripe is the Nineties look with the neon background  . If you ever decide to fiddle with the code, it’s one of the few cases in which the DL (definition list) tag could be useful.

All he really needs to do with the appearance is change it to a nice, soothing light blue instead of the eye-searing tint it is right now. #D1EEEE is a good one.

Thanks for sharing your opinions, guys. Apparently it has not occurred to you that I look at my own webpage a good deal (I have been updating it for 16 years) and if I did not personally like the the look of it and it was really "eye-searing" or looked like "neon" to me, then I would not have designed it that way.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder :)

Of course. It was meant to be an example for you.

You could've just used the lorem ipsum text.

And fwiw, I don't think the colour is particularly bad.

In the sober light of day, I think that the "neon" impression Korovev was seeing was not due to the background color per se, but rather to the effect of ordinary internet blue color of most of the text against this background. I have always meant to fix this but never got around to it -- so thanks for the nudge.

As for the overall "Nineties look" that is a feature rather than a bug, as they say
