This is my most recent attempt at an age, it's pretty much a mysterious Sandstone house in the middle of a vast ocean. :D Tell me what you think.

Good. Probably need to light sources to make the simple textures look a bit more sophisticated though- a little lightmapping goes a long way.

Quite, my last age was completely lightmapped, all 5 rooms. (you can imagine how annoying that was :P) So, I've decided to do as little lightmapping as possible (only when necessary), but I do agree that it definitly helps alot.

Simple solution- only lightmap once your age is absolutely final, and feel free to be as anal and perfectionist about it as you want when the time comes. Besides, with the state of things, no-one's goint to bit- complain about an age with lack of lightmapping regardless. They wanna play some sh- stuff.

Well, I might lightmap a bit to compliment lamps and stuff, but not much on daytime. I'm also doing a nighttime version, and the interior will have to be completely lightmapped.

It looks fine... Until you use the word "sandstone."

While the texture is good, as soon as I try to associate that kind of material mounted on those pillars over the water... well, it would require a crane to suspend my disbelief. The same would go for using concrete or adobe in that environment.

But, if you said that it was foam construction, everything comes nicely into place. A colleague actually built a foam dome house, and it looks very much like that.

Important note, yes... Sandstone can hardly exist on the sea for cause of the humidity in the air.

Hmm... I hadn't thought of that, there'll have to be some sort of explanation... Perhaps it's coated with something that keeps the humidity from effecting it. It's too obviously sandstone to say it's foam (when you get close, it's more detailed), and why would someone make an imitation sandstone hut?

Check out this:
http://www.pinktentacle.com/2008/08/styrofoam-dome-homes/

These seem to be made in pre-cast sections, but the "traditional" method was to spray polyurethane foam on an inflated bag, then cut out and add any doors, windows or other features. I thin outer coating of UV protectant and color is then sprayed on.

Other methods use combined layers of sprayed-on concrete (with re-bar) and foam. All good methods for getting the smooth, natural or organic look.

Basket? you mean the high pole attached to a metal board? There's going to be a ladder there, so the explorer can get from the adobe to the patio without breaking their necks. XD
