So we've all heard of the MystMovie.com website and I was on there recently checking the progress of the film and I came across this post that has a live action Myst BoT short! Evidently a couple of guys were wanting to be apart of the team doing the film and so they made a short video with several scenes from BoT and sent it to the "Mysteriacs". Anyway it was very impressive, and super cool to see Myst (even if it's only 12+ min) come to life like that. They shot part of it in a real cave!
Check it out!

I agree that it was incredible, although the pronunciation of D'ni really bothered me for some reason (perhaps it's been too long since I've played the original Myst). I am much more accustomed to the pronunciation (duh-ni) as opposed to "dunny." I really hope the Mysteriacs use the latter as I believe a dunny is a bathroom in Australia (correct me if I'm wrong) and is the reason they changed the pronunciation in the first place. I tend to be bothered by such things though so it would probably distract me from the movie. Anyone else with me or am I just being too picky?

New information coming straight from the blog: http://mystmovie.com/2009/06/30/me-write-good/

A Hollywood executive and a Studio have apparently picked up the Myst Movie project. We're waiting for further information from Adrian and Patrick, but signs point to good times in the future.

Hopefully this will get a full go-ahead sometime in the new few days.

Astonishing. Looks like this project will actually go forward. Yay!

If this movie gets made, it'll be awesome. :D

And think what this could do for our fan community and the prospects for Uru and Myst games in general...

This could be huge.

Well, we'll see. The producers will have to accept the fact that it's not a Myst movie. It's a movie set in the world of the D'ni. I'm not saying they won't be happy to produce it - but it's not what you would think of as a Myst movie.

I"m not saying it won't be great - but when you think "Myst movie" - you think linking books, fantastic worlds, Atrus, all that. Myst is used here, as far as I can tell, primarily for marketing purposes.

I don't know mszv. The script is based on the book 'MYST the Book of Ti'ana'. Seems right to call it MYST then.
That book is the only myst book I've read, and I did it a week or so ago. And if the scriptwriters so wish, a lot of emphasis could be put on the hunt and clue finding through various linking books near the end of the book. In fact that part could be made very exciting. The book merely describes it, but creates no real suspension. Anna merely happens to act, Aitrus the same. Change that and there is a nice cat and mouse thing to build suspension on, and quite magical.
I bought the book because I wanted the map. But knowing about the film project I was eventually curious enough to read the book. I think a film script based on that book may be very good.
I'd like... Nicholas Cage as Aitrus, Sean Connery as the father of Veovis, and there are a few more faces I'd like to see. Veovis has to be a looker.

The book is not really a novel I think. The time span is many years, with occurences from a few short episodes described with from two or three individuals points of views, without much background. It is well written and enjoyable. But it is very open ended. In fact Aitrus may be all wrong. Maybe he had no real role in the downfall of the D'ni. Himself he certainly believed so. But he was allowed to send forward his story to us through his surviving family. Maybe it it mostly misconcieved.
