Shorah everybody,

Perhaps some of you know that a few years ago, Cyan created two lovely ages to accompany a book of fiction named Crowthistle, The Well of Tears. I must confess haven't read the book (yet), but the two ages are lovely, worthy of Cyan indeed! If anybody is interested, the book is on bargain sale at BookCloseOuts, the exact link is http://www.bookcloseouts.com/default.as ... =19&Nty1=1

It might well be available elsewhere, just make sure it is the First Edition Hard Cover, which is the only one that ships with the CD-Rom.

Happy exploring :)

Thanks for sharing this.
There is a very nice website from Cecilia Dart-Thornton's Well of Tears
It has a trailer from this interactive CD Rom.
(do not forget to turn up the sound)

Did you get to see any of the movie or the cd trailer? I couldn't get anything to work?

Beautiful!

It's quite stunning that Cyan was able to make these two places while also working on Myst V.

I hope Cyan gets the funding to make more amazing worlds in the future.

I've been reading forums elsewhere which refer to Cyan's Crowthistle ages. I've found the book with the Crowthistle CD on Amazon for £5.99 (that's probably about $5.99 too, the way Sterling is going!) and was considering buying the book for the CD. I wondered how big the Crowthistle ages were and what they're like. Does anybody have them? Any opinions?

 I thought I was aware of all the Cyan products, but have not heard of this at all. . . . I couldn't find it on Amazon either. Can you post a link to what you found?

Chucker

thanks. It looks really nice quality (I guess we'd expect that from Cyan).

Does anyone know how big the ages are? Are they just a few locations or quite extensive?

Mystdee

It's come up on the UO forums in the context of hacks - unmentionable here! but I guess versions of the hacks may turn up in OS Uru. I'd never heard of Crowthistle before that. Turns out they are a series of books - amazon.co.uk has them.

There are two places you can visit, and they are not very big. One age has about six to ten buildings with their enclosures, somewhat like a Tudor village; the other is kind of like Channelwood crossed with Dereno and it is about the same size. There is nothing you can do but wander around and look. You cannot interact with anything.

It is in book two of the Crowthistle Chronicles, The Well of Tears. If you are purchasing the first edition with the ISBN 0765312069 in the US, it should be inside of it. I got mine for $6.76 US, including postage, buy it now, off of eBay. To make sure that they are being accurate, it might be a good idea to ask the seller if the CD is in the book.

The best place for screenshots of Crowthistle is on RIUM+'s site: http://www.riumplus.com/crowthistle/index.html

The worlds themselves look amazing, although they lack any sort of interaction. Nothing to click, nothing to read, just pretty worlds to walk around in. The Marsh especially is quite beautiful, and I would even say that it looks better than any of the Ages that we saw in MOUL.

I've always been kind supprised no other book publishers jumped on this concept. It would really enhance the reader's experience.

Oh my, how lovely!

I've seen a couple of those screencaps of Rowan Green elsewhere, I think. They look familiar.
