HTML5 would be an interesting concept, so long as the devices support it (I'm not up to speed on my mobile HTML5 and CSS 3 specifications).

I might be able to help with user interface things (whether this be HTML/CSS or app based).

Errr...... =/

I have to say, the user interface needs a /lot/ of work.

CW's Zik Clock app is an example of an /excellent/ app UI. Wolfram Alpha's app also has an /excellent/ UI, too.

Penultimate, as well. Wikipanion.. =P IM+, as well. Colloquy is good, as well - each do different things, but possibly wolfram alpha's app might be a good one to look at, in my opinion. =)

Also, remember you're not just designing for an iPod Touch - you're designing for an iPhone, and an iPad as well.

Interface design is /incredibly/ important - do it well, and do it right the first time. the *first* time. Not the second, not the third, the /first/ time. =P

Unfortunately that interface design is very 'traditional' for iOS. There's a lot of exploration and fancyness we can work in. Plus that icon definitely needs some work...

In addition to fancyness, there's a lot more functionality that we can work in. While that list system would work, there's probably some much better methods of navigating a lot of information more effectively. Plus, we can probably work in some D'ni aspects into the app.

I'll work on something today, but if somebody wants some inspiration: http://applaudable.tumblr.com/

Also, it would be really useful for somebody to "storyboard" the app. If this were to happen, we'd need to know exactly what this app will do, how it will be done, and where certain menus will go to.

Hey, tanshin, you're a perfectionist... haha... :D

While this is an awesome app as of its purpose and functionality,
this might be precisely why it'll be quite a challenge to program
such a tool for D'ni purposes...

It is a very comprehensive, multi-layered and -functional database
which would be much appreciated by any Uru/Myst/Riven enthusiast,
but, yeah, ... ok, just go ahead, I wonder what you or someone else
will set up...

On the other hand this was also only programmed by some people
and we have many computer geniuses in our community... Good luck... :P

I think the HTML5 idea is great. Also, I think a lot of planning needs to go into this. I also think that it should be wiki-ish. Topics connect to other topics. We need to allow people to explore and find new topics they weren't even looking for. Storyboarding is a good idea.

Also, I'd like to see multiple language support right off the top. Sure, we start with English...but the support for other languages should be part of the groundwork so we don't need to add it in later.

If we're making a mobile website, why don't we just make one of Mystlore instead of a new one?

Boy that idea sounds familiar...

Seriously though...I think it would be beneficial for the community at large if the data you want to put together to put into your app was first added to MystLore. It keeps it in one place. One version of the truth. There may be some additional things that can't be done in a wiki - like date calculators and the like. However, the vast majority of the information is going to be text and images, right?

I come back to my original suggestion. Get MystLore up to date and FULL of data. Verify it, make sure it's up to date, etc. Use that as your starting point.

Perhaps we could work with the folks of MystLore to make a MystLore app rather than something entirely new.

But either way, we need to have a base list of features to go off of, not just some thoughts that appear throughout the thread, but a list.

Yes, a KI app is a want and has been for a while. I think the problem is we don't have programers for it. OHB?

If it is going to be HTML5 then it needs to be multiple language versions. The same as Cyan did for the app store. I mean were talking about what's probably more that a quarter gig of text data excluding pictures.

I think it should be said that if distribution method is an issue then Cydia should always be an open alternative.
