It's coming. I feel it in the water. I feel it in the earth. I smell it in the air. No, not The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, but that's coming out next week and just in time too. It's a shame we'll never get to see the other two, for December 21, 2012 will soon arrive to spoil Christmas for everyone who celebrates it.

Officials and scientists ridiculously worried about ridiculous people are trying to assuage any outlandish fears. Party poopers, I say! Let the people panic. Let people party on like it's 1999, er, the end of the world. C'mon, let us have some wicked, tricksy fun and amusement!

I just got a spam/junk email from factsvillage.com that's actually pretty funny:

Quote:
BE AFRAID: THE GOVERNMENT DENIES THE WORLD IS ENDING ON DECEMBER 21ST

According to many doomsday theories, the world is set to end on December 21st 2012. It seems so many people are worried about this that the United States government has gone so far as to officially deny the rumors on the USA.gov blog. Before we were pretty sure these theories were rubbish, but now that the government has denied the rumors we’re actually worried. Why would the government bother denying something so ridiculous unless it was true?

To add to our troubles, December 12 will be the last time ever that there is day/month/year synchronicity: 12/12/12.

As for December 21, I will spend December 20 flying around the world at just over 1000 miles per hour, just ahead of midnight. I'm sure this will work, as long as I go very, very fast at the very end.

Ooh, wait, could it be on my birthday? It's only 4 days earlier. I've always dreamed of the end of the world as a birthday present! :D

Everryone get your camcorders ready! It's long been speculated the world should fittingly end this way: down the recording end of a camera, the human race looking up at the sky capturing the doomsday event, instead of, you know, running. Or something else. Equally ineffective.

You know, I really hate that R.E.M. song. Once I get it stuck in my head, it's there for days,

the Mesoamerican Long Count calendar

Does anyone have the Popol Vuh handy? I'm off to Mexico and the site of Palenque to pray to the gods and raise Pacal I from the dead to celebrate the end of the 13th b'ak'tun. If Itzamna will let it happen, we'll be alright.

:D I know things!

The funniest notion is that a government would ever be the source of knowledge about anything :p

I might suggest a End of the World party someplace in the caverns on the 21st
But I work weird hours and might not be able to attend, but thats no reason to not have a party.
We could party till after 12:00 and celebrate the end of one and the beginning of another.
and perhaps discuss what the end of one was and the beginning will be

Or perhaps a more realistic view.

Assuming we make it to next year, you can look forward to 13/13/13. Or have we too soon forgotten the lost month of Smarch? (Video clip, Episode guide)

Marge: (narration) It all started on the thirteenth hour of the thirteenth day of the thirteenth month. We were there to discuss the misprinted calendars the school had purchased.
Homer: (shivering) Lousy Smarch weather.

Though more seriously, what about 2112? Actually, 21/12/2112 (dd/mm/yy format) seems a better fit for numerological significance.

It'll happen every 100 years, provided the first two digits of the year are ignored. One month for 12 years, every 100 years.

What i find particularly disturbing is that the doomsday-sayer is usualy still taken serious by his uhm,,, "flock" even after the doomsday-date has passed.See you all on the twentysecond.

I think that's the name of a Rush album.
