If you celebrate Christmas, when do you open presents?

Mod note: title corrected

It's traditional in some European countries, although in the UK presents are generally opened on Christmas day. I believe, though, that the UK Royal Family open gifts on Christmas Eve, no doubt due to the German element in their ancestry. Or their ability to exert leverage on North Pole for preferential treatment.

In our family, the tradition is one Christmas Eve, the rest on Christmas Day.

Even though I've been living on my own for longer than I care to mention, my siblings who live in other States (United, not Altered) send my gifts to our Mom, and those of us still in New York get together at my sister's house - and that's where I find my presents. (And yes, my siblings do know my mailing address!) We are not a normal family.

If its about their German ancestry. they will be dining at midnight.

When I was still living with my parents, it was one present on Christmas Eve and the rest on Christmas day. Being a one-person household now, I usually open the present when it is given to me and vice-versa. My favorite so far this year is a used DVD of John Waters' Polyester, even though the Odorama card does not work well. I've still got two from the original release and I do know where they are.

O! How I love those presnets. We let our kids open them all on the morning of Julafton. (Christmas eve) the same afternoon we have a party with all the family and then have a grand presnets opening again in the evening.

Could there be a 4th option? Due to various time and family constraints, we frequently have to open our presents either earlier, or later.

So, I would vote for "around Christmas... ish...". 8)

I wish I could add a forth option but I can't seem to change the poll now that it has been created.

When you have a parent who often works the graveyard shift at the nuke plant, this is true. Once upon a time, we opened presents on the morning of the 20th.

I think some Orthodox communities open their presents somewhere around 7th of January.

Just as soon as I can after I hear the sleigh and reindeer leaving the roof.
