Is it made out of wood or crystal? I can't really tell...

Assuming it's flint, it is either a scraper or an arrowhead. If not flint, what material is it? Also an indication of size will help us all a great deal

It's horribly worn and pitted... Any chance of a rubbing, GMZ?

It looks rather like the patterning you find in some moldavite and other tektite specimens, from the melting and aero-ablation from a meteor impact splash, or entry/re-entry into the Earth's atmosphere. It could also be a piece of man-made space junk. Do a Google image search on Moldavite.

A few years ago, something hit a friend's house, punched a hole in the siding, bounced back out after gouging a track on the wood underneath, punched another hole in an aluminum awning below, and ended up sitting on the driveway. We still haven't identified it.

There are some straight lines that look pretty much like they were carved into the material - like a Z or an 8 (old trick that archeologists use to make old carvings more clear is to pour water over the surface).
The edges too look like they were made with some kind of a tool; but that's a bit blurry due to the use of a scanner. As far as I see it, ALL edges have scratches or were carved into the material.
As it's about as big as a hand, it's rather improbable that it is an arrowhead. It could be a prehistoric tool; but that's a rather shaky theory of mine. But I'm sure someone has worked on it.
My guess is: Someone in the not too far past found a nice piece of rock, carved a bit at it and then lost interest in the work and disposed of it.

Let's wait to see if we get a rubbing before we make assertions about whatever the pattern is.

What i'm going to do--or rather what i am doing right now, is slowly following the lines that are visibly part of each symbol, and i'm going to dig them slightly deeper. And i'll do the rubbings after that.

I do have to say though, that Z symbol (its a Z, someone said it looked like an 8 or a timeglass or something like that.)... is slightly awesome... Its the most visible one of them (it comes up the clearest and yet still not good enough to see when rubbing)... I've actually started to doodle it everywhere
