Since the site (HW & SW) is privately owned and operated, I doubt this option would be on the table. Unfortunately, when the operator is out of town and the site is fubar, you have to put up with the inconvenience.

That's the whole point. Get it on reliable hosting if you can afford $40 per year. If you can't, that's understandable.

No really, 'outsiders cannot run a guild... website.'. At least that's what I've overheard about things pertaining to "outsiders" and "guilds". I'm an outsider who runs a guild forum so hey, what do I know...

If it goes down for days on end then it's usually time to find a new host. Mine goes down from time to time, and the worst downtime I've had was 6 hours (which has only happened once due to a mass server failure that was later resolved). Otherwise Bluehost has been pretty reliable (for me at least).

Tech has said in the past that if the GoG website were to be taken down on purpose and for good, the community would be alerted well in advance. So I assume there's some hardware issue.

@Tomala: I'm assuming the server is not hosted, but is in someone's house (or apartment or cave), which would make sense of johnsojc saying, "Since the site (HW & SW) is privately owned and operated..." I don't really know the facts; I'm just going by the severity, frequency and duration of trouble. It's hard to believe it's on a hosting service at all.

The GoG site does run on a private, in-home system. If someone runs into a power pole outside, there are problems.

Ah, been there done that. Makes more sense now. :)

/off topic, but sort of related:

Tomala, is there any access to older (circa 2005) Slackers forums? I'm looking for some history, and currently extant forums don't go back far enough.

/return to topic

Not at this time. The data still exists on the server (and in a bunch of other system hard drives) but we haven't really had the time or the interest to get all the older forum incarnations setup for viewing. If anything it would probably be faster to wait for the GoG forum to come back up and find what you need.

I didn't join the GoG forum until some time in 2006. I'd been posting on Slackers, Tapestry and UO before then. GoG also archived off some of the older posts. So, I'll just have to go by memory. Thank you for checking.

Can't you search UO and Tapestr... Oh right.

It looks like the game has joined the GoG website and they both went out for a pub crawl.

Actually, there are a handful of us online right now. I got in through XP, I don't know about the others.

But the Greeters are still down. :(

There is still an annoying problem with the forum index page constantly refreshing when viewing with the current version of IE. I suggest you use any other browser to avoid being annoyed or suffering vertigo.
