I stumbled across a totally random thing today. Allegedly, at one time Disney was talking with Myst developers to repurpose their old abandoned Discovery Island into a live-action puzzle game.

Disney's Discovery Island

Had anyone else heard about this? How totally cool would it have been! If done right, of course. But still!

*sigh* If only.

Amazing; never heard of that!
Yet a Google search turns up many many references to this failed attempt....
...including this article that superimposes a map of Myst Island on an overhead view of Discovery Island. This page seems to be one of the better write-ups on the project.

I hope someone raises this topic during this year's Mysterium visit with Cyan!

Shana, there have been some discussions on these forums about this, I'll just throw in a few of them which I just found ... Enjoy ... :D

A Wiki article about this island and its history (also with Myst) ...

and some MOUL forums discussions
Myst and Disney
An interesting discussion with great further links and info

Disney Animation's BOLT...and why you should see it!
This is by Josh Staub who left his Art Director position at Cyan to work on a film for Walt Disney Animation Studios

A completely different discussion here, but with hints to Disney and why Disney seem 'to own pieces of Myst' ...

In general, for all interested in more of this, I just gave 'Disney' to the advanced search on these forums and got 12 pages with results back ... :)

Great links btw, Emor, and Google is always a valuable friend in such things lol ... :P

Hm. How do we know it's not actually functioning as designed, right this moment? Only a few hardy explorers have been able to make their way there, after all.

A real Myst adventure, as opposed to a clean and safe themepark attraction...

Back when it was open, I went to this place many times. Weirdly, it was one of my favorites.

One point would have likely been it was not very well known. With my annual pass admition was free, and the attraction was not very crowded those time I went off-season.

I really enjoyed the owl with his "Grr..." face. (Bloop, bloop....Ear tuffs extended.)

"Okay, you're scaring the tourists...Happy face." (Bloop, bloop...ear tuffs relaxed.)

Nothing like an "angry" tiny owl about half a metre tall. :P
