Well, I thought this site was interesting. Have any of you heard of it, before?

What is considered sci-fi one day becomes reality the day after :o

I never heard of this site before but I've heard about this weird 3D printing process that was coming up came up then, it goes over my head for now as I still consider it related to sci-fi but...there it is, already: 3D printed objects for sell!

No, reminds me of Etsy though.

Thanks for the link. Think I'll bookmark it.

I found that site a few month ago. http://i.materialise.com/ is also a site for 3d printing. The problem is, that it's very expensive to print something... (For example a simple cup costs around 60-120$)

I've been reading about 3-D printing for years. In my thoughts it stayed in the "I'll never have a use for that" category until a sort-of friend handed me one of my sand sculptures. This was a very strange experience, and it's still weird to look at the little model of something I made years ago.

He used a set of digital camera images to make a 3-D model with a special program. He had to use another program to clean it up, and then he enlisted the help of a professional to turn the model into one that could be printed.

There are several different processes. This sculpture was printed with layers of very fine powder that fills the whole printing space. The "slices" of the sculpture have a binder added, so that when the process is done the model is kind of dug out of the powder. After careful cleaning the object must be coated with a hardening fluid, which is another fiddly process.

All in all, it cost him about $150 to make two models. The model is not the sculpture, but it's good enough that I recognize my work in an unfinished state, and I want to get a tiny tool and finish shaping it.

It is definitely a thing. The prices continue to drop and the materials continue to improve. If you search Shapeways for "shot glass" you'll find some at $20 to $25 now -- still expensive, but for a custom-designed item, not so bad.

Yesterday I saw this announcement: http://blog.stratasys.com/2014/01/27/ob ... d-printer/

3D printing is the future. And the future comes quickly in these parts.

These cookie cutters cost me about $8 USD a piece to make – $7.50 for 1.5 hours of using the 3D printer at the fab lab, $0.50 for the material. These are filament-fusing hobbyist 3D printers though, not the more expensive powder-sintering ones typically used by commercial services such as Shapeways or Sculpteo (I haven’t used either).

So when is someone going to make a KI template? I'd buy one.

You might want to suggest that to CYAN. It could represent another income stream for them if they posted the KI and some other props.

The 3D Printing technology is moving forward pretty fast right now ... An old saying or wisdom might be appropriate here 'There is nothing more powerful than an idea whose time has come' and is currently proving its simple but powerful truth ... :)

Anyone interested, please look into this for the astounding and exciting new developments ...
Here's a short video on YouTube also posted on that site above ...

This is a beautifully illustrated short history and introduction to 3D printing for all those who are asking themselves what the heck we might all be talking about here ... as they say on that website 'The Future is Now' ... Enjoy ... :D

Haha ... This might be even more interesting for all you gamers out there ... Here's the direct video link ... Have fun ... :D

Wow, and another addition ... Here's a price list of many if not all available 3D printers out there, ranging from $199.00 to 846,000.00 ...

That's it, all interested might want to roam themselves through that amazing interesting up to date website ... :P

I had a shop on Shapeways a couple years ago - I sold model railroad buildings made with the full color sandstone material. The sales weren't good enough to justify maintaining the shop but I might still consider reopening it someday.
