Wow....Nalates......Great post.

And believe it or not, I sort of understood most of it.
Others will catch on.
Thanks again for the post.

I hate to derail the discussion, but I'd like to get back to the idea of publicity. I still think an in-game "bulletin board" somewhere in Ae'gura would go a long way to helping new players. (In fact, I believe one of the fan shards, TOC (?), has a bulletin board, of sorts.)

Michel: If we can't put together an actual b-board in Ae'gura, would it be possible to set up a "prototype" (because I don't know what else to call it) in the Magic Ages?

Who would be "in charge" of maintaining the Bulletin Board?

Yes it is TOC, in the COD

Great idea!

Why not ask the GoMe to gather all the, let's say, last week/month's news and send them to Michel so he can update the Bulletin Board or at least for now...the "prototype" of TOOO? :)

Assuming that goes ahead, there is then just the problem of making the players aware of the bots. Obviously, we can't just put that on the b-board. So, how do we do it?

Why does it always come down to the bots? And if so, why don't we just replace the whole game with a GIANT multitasking bot and solve all our problems for good?

I thought this was Sam's dramatic exit thread..

That is what I was thinking Adi.
We are having to depend on the Bots to "take us away"
from Moula to their world.
The thread has become a multi thread about a lot of different things.
That is why Moula will never change from what it is today.
The GoMe keeps the updates and the Guilds speak in Kirel, so people
only have to show up at their meetings and get the info and put it
on their own calendars.
If people talk with real new players, give these links and they will be
up to date with what is happening.
These are just mine and a few others opinions.

I'm personally not a fan of the magic stuff, including the magic bots, since it ruins the immersion IMO. Like you say, the best solution would be to go talk to these new people.

Exactly Kath.
We old timers use to do that all the time.
There are a few Avatars that show up to do just that.
"Is there anyone who needs help?" But, they can't be there
24/7.
Most of the time I sign in, avatars are standing all over the the plaza
and some only say hello. I go do a marker game and they are still standing
there. Not even a word after I talk with them. Maybe I am on everyone's
ignore list. Lol.
Just do what you can ingame and enjoy what you can.
In my opinion.

Sure does, but that's probably fine for those who have already gone through everything URU has to offer.

A newcomer, though? Should they walk in the City for the first time and be whisked away to "magic" Ages by bots who can explain it all to them? Should they be told that skydiving or fan-made marker missions are the real priorities in the game? Seems (to me) far better they should get their bearings in the traditional sense first.

Absolutely.
For at least a couple years the Guild Of Greeters 'hood was staffed nearly 24/7, by GoG members who were on scheduled shifts ! Things tapered off, of course, and these days it's rare to find anyone in there...though some stalwarts do show up for a shift here and there.
I occasionally park my avvie in the GoG 'hood then go multitask and wait for a link-in sound on my speakers. Once or twice an hour, someone generally will come in looking for assistance. I encourage others to try this once in a while.

There are two avies who show up for a couple of hours in the Guild of Greeters hood almost every day. Of course, they can't be there all the time, but they do provide a regular presence.

Unfortunately, after the Guild of Greeters shut down, no one was able to take their place. The New Greeters started up, but I haven't heard anything about them in months.

Actually, there *IS* a board in the new pub. We hope to add new content to from explorers as we can. this is not to mention a "public" imager which will hopefully be functional on day.

Anys, hopefully Doobes will be by with a pic at some point....

Now, that'd be cool resp. absolutely awesome and classy!!! ... :P

That is the correct, appropriate and useful equipment needed besides other viable solutions mentioned, of course ... I wonder if it will be possible to actually attach something to those boards, but as source of information with most probably the GoM in charge it'll be already excellent ... Thanks however for sharing, Doobes, and I just couldn't resist to comment on those gems on this anyway already (in a more and more wonderful way) derailed topic ... :D

(I'd like to add that this is all not sooo much beyond the topic, Sam said bye bye, we said, happy further explorartions, and the community is again inspired to ponder why people might prefer to leave, which could be discussed in a new topic of course, but ... yeah, just saying ... :) )

Incidentally, I have gone through everything Uru has to offer, but in the end, it's still a game in the Myst universe, which to me means that immersion is more important.
