Shorah, I wanted to go back and replay ALL my Myst games again BUT I
as almost everyone else has ran into problems in getting these old games
to work on our newer OSes, Win7,8,8.1,...

The "Myst V Detection Tool" does not accept my directx 10 version, and
How do I get directX 10 to pass the detection tool test?
cause it wants to install DirectX-9c or the game to work!

- I have Windows7 Pro 64 edition!
- DiretX-10 is my main systems DX BUT,

My gfx card is a nvidia gtx-670 w/2gig onboard memory with,
DirectX-11.1 'hardware' support in it.
* (unknown to me at the time but this gfx card was exclusively for Win8
when it first came out.) *

What a Quagmire! My installed M5 game, when it starts it goes to a
black screen and then promptly crashes back to desktop.

What can I do to get this game running?

Q - Does Myst5 'parallel install' its version of DirectX-9c?
So it won't over write my 'MAIN' Systems DirectX 10? ,
if not, then is there a way to, like trick it or something to get it to work?

Because I have gone down this path before and installed another game
that also installed its own version of directX, the outcome of it was,
I could play the game great but it 'BRICKED' the rest of my PC,
thus had to REFORMAT my PC!

not sure but I think this might be related, (hope its not)
I think its not very nice of MS for trying to kill off
32bit file format around when windows8 came out mind you. *ie

So I guess I should be happy to get all but the 'First' and the 'Last'
Myst games working ( realMyst & Myst5 End of Ages ) lol ironic,
sounds kinda biblical "The first & The last".

and help would be great in trying to get these 2 games working again.

.

Shorah VoiZod,

Over on the Cyan forums, AlanD has posted bits of his notes about getting all the Myst games running under Windows 7. Here are the ones about EoA, just in case it helps for your situation.

And you can always try PMing him for detailed assistance. :)

For End of Ages, also see this. Maybe try this (direct link).

For realMyst, try this (direct link).

Maybe also see this

Lastly, the proper forum sections for your question are this and this.

The GOG version won't let me save my graphics options. I have to restart the game to get max texture quality and lighting but when I restart EoA it reverts to default settings.

I don't know about RealMyst but Myst5 should work on Win 7(you might need to use a patch and compatibility mode though).

Hi VoiZod. Sorry, I've been on a sabbatical from forums, and pretty much everything else, so I've just seen this post.

As Ainia says, I have a Windows 7 installation and have all the Myst-universe games installed and running. (Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit)

For End of Ages, it installed straight from the DVD, but I then used the Myst5InitFiles fix from
http://cho.cyan.com/patches/Myst5InitFiles.zip

which fixes a startup problem.

I hope this fixes your problem which sounds like it is related

For RealMyst, all I had to do was run it in Windows 98/ME compatibility mode.
