Another thing you can do is edit your forum post to remove any references to business from it, as well as the funding link. Instead, set up a web site to showcase some of your work and talk about what you plan to do in the future. On that web site, you can have a "would you like to know how you can help me?" link that might go to your funding page. I'm hoping it won't be a technical violation if the page you link to from the forum does not talk about the business angle, or contain a sales pitch.

I was being facetious to point out the uneven application of the rules. I think GoFundMe is okay for your idea, but if you don't reach your goal, then maybe Kickstarter would be the way to go. In any case, I do think Larry offered some good advice about setting up a new website to serve as a go-between here and the funding site.

Thanks for the advice. A website if anything sounds like the way to go. I have the beginnings of a business identity in the works and a lots of previous work to share, so maybe taking a step back to accomplish this first. Then on the website just link the fundraising links.

Just a short note:
This thread is riding on that fine line about being against the Cyan forum policy of advertising commercial products on Cyan's forums. We do allow some to ride that fine line. There is no written policy, it is just done on a case by case basis. And because it is riding that fine line, our ruling can change without notice.
It is best if you approach us first before posting.

Thanks,
Chogon
