I think what some people forget is that Until Uru was a gift, maybe more than anything else. It was a way to keep the fan base happy Until Uru lived again.

Without arguing whether or not Uru Live would be live today without Until Uru, let's just picture how we would feel if Cyan didn't give us Until Uru in the first place... we'd all simply be exstatic for Uru Live. Those of us that wouldn't be able to make it to Uru Live would treat it like any other thing: <shrug> "Oh, well. Maybe sometime in the future..." instead of "Why don't they give us another version for free that we all can play?"

Does World of Warcraft have a free version out there for those that can't afford it? Does any MMORPG?

To be disappointed that we're losing this temporary gift is understandable. To demand that Cyan keep it alive for those that can't make it into uru Live might be... unreasonable, whether or not it will get more people to sign up for Uru Live.

Having said my peace, I express my gratitude for those that kept Until Uru going to keep us hard core fans occupied Until Uru could live again. They have always been friends of this community, and a few have even been friends of mine (in the strange, disembodied friend across cyberspace sort of way). I hope that all of us will get to join us in Uru Live. I also love the idea of a monument to shard owners (though how to do this non-discreetly and still ICly, I don't know).

If the reasons for shutting down UU are mainly legal, then I support the decision 100%. What I find so discouraging is the manner in which the decision was made public. Rather than give the shard owners some fair warning, to treat them with the respect everyone else in this thread obviously has for them, they simply dumped the announcement into this thread and let the so-called community go at each others' throats.

Can anyone say, liaisons?

At least in the old days, we had poor ol' Cyan Bill, bravely venturing out into the forums, trying to be the voice of reason, taking all the abuse hurled at him, and offering umbrellas in return for anyone who wanted them (sorry, folks, old joke). Now, or so it seems, Cyan has adopted a bunker mentality, and is content simply to let issues like this and the liaison debacle erupt and fester. Not a good sign for a game that is allegedly designed to foster "community."

Zardoz,

So, you are saying something more progressive from Cyan is in order: A candid explanation, not just an abrupt announcement. On any issue of which the community is a part. Agreed. These simple things would go far in reducing the kind of unflattering noise for new or potential subscribers to see.

Anyone else getting flashbacks of the old "Ubi is the Demon!" "No, Cyan did it to Ubi!" days?

With the mention of Cyan Bills and "umbrella men" yeah, I am. :) C'est la vie.

Let's hope we can all work together to keep a memory of UU alive in UruLive in one form or another, for sure.

Until Uru was a privilege, not a right. It was even stated in the UU FAQ: the word untìl says it all, so it's not a big surprise. I agree with Dan'nee's post.

I woud like to thank all shard owners for their work. Without them, we wouldn't have MOUL I think! For the shard owners: don't feel sad, feel proud! This is the crown on your work! The return of Uru Live!

It's a bit odd that it had been said that only D'mala would shut down... but it's Cyan's decision, they will have their reasons. Uru Live must succeed this time.

But he never said anything about only taking credit cards and only delivering to 14 countries :-P

Lots of good discussion,

Please remember to keep it civil and lets all agree that we have the right to disagree.

Greydragon, just out of interest, why exactly did Cyan decide to shut down the auth server and not just D'mala?

Lol, GD, that's not the kind of post I was hoping for. Thank you anyway.
I wish that Cyan will make use of their right to change their decision

At least some official is watching this thread, although it is somehow hidden in 'off topic'

It's not hidden. It is, in fact, top-most.
