For some reason certain animations where only some elements on the screen are animated (rotating of the gate room, rising / lowering of the stairs at the golden dome, etc) have pretty low framerates, somewhere at 5 FPS (this is my personal estimation considering that there is no way to see an FPS meter). Other animations like maglev ride, mining cart ride, etc seem to be going perfectly smooth. Anyone else having this issue?

Same here, a lot of the videos seem to be playing slowly, one of the doors on the jungle island opens so roughly that it seems to open some, stop, open more, stop, and open all the way but the sound is smooth...I'm booting up Riven today to compare the animation speeds in the PC version.

Checked it. Animations on the PC are much much smoother overall.. :( Seems like some ironing-out needs to be done.
Also, this can't be helped but the PC version is better-looking. Maybe the 2 gig app limit should have been fully used.

That's possibly one of the "animation strips" that Chogon referred to in this post: http://mystonline.com/forums/viewtopic. ... 989#357989. It could be that flipping through images is more sensitive to what else your device is doing than other forms of animation.

Hmm, interesting. It indeed only happens to animations which are overlaid over a static image. It never happens to fullscreen animations, only to non-fullscreen ones.

Yes. iPhones can only show fullscreen videos, so for any mini-screen videos they needed to either rerender them in fullscreen (a method they used often in the Myst port) or convert the video into a series of still frames (which they did a lot more in Riven). So yeah it's not a bug or anything, as far as I can tell, it's just one of the sacrifices they had to make to get the game working at a reasonable filesize.
