I'm sure I saw a thread on this problem but I can't locate it.

I'm having a problem with PhysX. I've installed MQOBeta. I've been able to get all the updates and when I try to get in the login goes fine, I accept the agreement, it then tells me that my copy of PHYSX is either old or doesn't exist. It askes if I wish to install a new copy. I answer YES. then up comes the agreement for PhysX amd I accept the agreement and immediately receive the message "Installation ended prematurely because of an error.".

I have MQObeta on my laptop but I'd really like to run it on my desktop. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you all.
Jody

Are you running the physx installer as admin?

Sometimes software firewalls and antivirus software prohobit downloads without your approval. Perhaps you could try and download again but watch out for a pop up or some such alert. I have found it to sometimes hide behind the download window, so if you get the error message, try minimizing the download window down and see if there is an alert hidden behind it. In WinXP it's <alt><tab> or <WinKey><D>, but I don't know if the shortcuts are the same in Vista.

The earlier post about fixing the problem recommended downloading and installing PhysX directly. Unfortunately since that post PhysX is no longer a seperate company (Aegia) but part of Nvidia. I found a link for version 6.12.02 for Vista.
http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/Other-DRIVERS-TOOLS/Others/Ageia-PhysX-Vista-Driver-61202.shtml

it's an old version but far newer than the version used by MQO. I do not know the website sofpedia.com so I can't recommend it - maybe someone else can okay them.

The earlier post (for URU MOUL) on how to install the program should still be correct EXCEPT for the link:

Mystdee has a post that if you have already installed a newer version of PhysX then MQO will ask if you want to replace it. If you say "NO" then you can still play with the newest driver.

I installed the latest PhysX driver from nVidia and MQO runs fine. It never asked anything. You can get it here: http://www.nvidia.com/object/physx_system_software.html

The latest driver is currently 9.09.0814. Edit: I just installed this with the same result: no problems and no questions asked.

Thanks for the update D'Lanor. The only question I had when I found the newest version is will it run on JoDonahue's system since her video card is a NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GS? I don't know much about Nvidia cards or PhysX software so I listed the earliest Vista compliant version..

The "supported cards" listed by Nvidia for the newest 9.09 version are: GeForce 200-series, 100-series, 9-series, and 8-series GPUs (with minimum of 32 cores and a minimum of 256MB dedicated graphics memory) AGEIA PhysX Processors (All)

That is PhysX hardware support. Your card either has that or not. If not then PhysX reverts to software mode (as it does for non nVidia cards).

If im not mistaken plasma doesn't even take advantage of hardware mode, though that might have changed by now.

Thank you all for your input, Here is my update.

Tried installing version (9.09.0428) which came with my video card - got as far as accepting the agreement - as soon as it start to install it stopped with an error -"Installation ended prematurely because of an error."

I downloaded version (9.09.0814) from the internet - same result as above.

Do you think I would have any more luck with Windows 7 than I'm having with Vista?

Probably not, although a complete Windows reinstall might fix it anyway.

Here is something else you can try which came up when I googled your error: Run the installer in quiet mode.
  • Go Start - Run... (you may have to customize the Start menu to show the Run option)
  • Browse to the PhysX installer and open it
  • Add /quiet after the resulting command line, for example: "C:\your download location\PhysX_9.09.0814_SystemSoftware.exe" /quiet

That's a new one to me. What's "quiet mode?"

Quiet (or silent) mode for software setups means that the software installs in the background without user interaction. Apparently the dialog popups break the PhysX installation on some systems somehow.
